Almost time for new tires, what are you planning on getting after the stock tires wear out?

I can only say what I would do. Go black. Touch a curb lightly makes raised-white lettering look bad. One little mistake and you are seeing it every day for the rest of your tire's life.

However, on my now gone Corvette, the white lettering was the only choice. It was a great look.

I remember when I had to "paint" the raised black letters on the tires of my older brother's 1966 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 as part of his $2 car detailing payment to me.

Good morning, everyone.

I bought a used Lightning on Friday, and the stock Generals were around 50% when they took it on trade at 18,200 miles. I test drove before they had the chance to run it through the shop, and they agreed to let me pick the new tires.

I chose the Firestone Destination A/T2 because it's a high-rated tire with the 3PMSF rating, which should be better for snowy Minnesota winters. I have no idea about how the efficiency compares with factory rubber because I came from a Model Y, but I'm happy with them so far.

I've been watching tests from the Tyre Reviews YouTube channel for over a year, and their methodical track tests are among the best I've seen. They rate the A/T2 as one of the highest-performing in its class among all categories, but it's a bit weaker on dry roads. It seems to have the lowest rolling resistance of the ones they tested, which surprises me given the aggressive siping.

The stock tires have a 65K treadlife warranty if bought aftermarket, and these only have a 55K warranty. We'll see how long they last, but I expect they'll do well in the slush.

It's been great so far. I raised three tires from 37 to 42 PSI, and the battery was still showing 3/4. It's a lot slower than my plug-in direct drive compressor, but great to keep in the truck for trailer tires or when I'm too lazy to deal with cords.

No spacers or adjustments to suspension. Just bolted on and no issues of rubbing. Exact same overall height as OEM Lariat set.

So i found these and am on the fence on whether or not a tire made for walmart is worth it, but the price is so tempting. Also ive done hours of research and cant seem ti find an answer on whether or not i can get away with a 275/65/20 on the stock lariat wheels without a level kit, anyone try that?

the Costco tires are LTX tires and rated for way more than OEM, i wonder if its just and issue with the online system?

I had Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT on my old F-150 and I liked them a lot. It looks like the walmart link is the older (first-gen?) Discoverer, so I wouldn't get that and probably explains their cost. The entire AT3 line is solid from what I've seen.

I have no experience with any Firestone tires.

Personally I would wait for the Toyo Open Country AT3 EV coming next year, with the hope being that they won't have much of an impact on efficiency, but of course that depends on how soon you need tires. They are also likely to be pricey.

I was laughing about this last weekend. The Destination A/T2 that I asked my dealer for don’t meet the requirement, either. They apparently didn’t check.

I was running a slightly lower size for my Model Y’s winter tires, and Discount Tire refused to even plug a leak for me. They looked at the tire, compared it with specs, and wouldn’t touch it. I hope I don’t have a flat with these because my dealer isn’t close by.

I have been wondering this as well - if that size fits, the Rivian-spec Pirelli Scorpion would be an option.

I have 18k on my Lightning with the stock Hankook’s on. They did really well new last winter here in Wisconsin driving across the state. But with another year of driving, they are slippery in rain and even light snow, with wear having eliminated the siping mostly.

So I watched lots of YouTube reviews, especially the Tyres. Guy, and red user reviews at Tire Rack and Discount Tires. Then when I was in this week for my replacement rear light bar and dash mat, asked the service guy what Ford says. He checked, and said for my 22 Lariat ER VIN, Ford recommends, either BFG Trail Terrain TA’s, Generals, or Nittos. I didn’t pay attention to the model of the Nittos or Generals, since the BFGs did so well in testing, and have an A rating for temperature, too. Winter to desert, they should be here and installed next week.
The only thing I am not sure about is towing….. we shall see. But the other 2 tires had the same towing load rating, so I’m not going to sweat it.

Had new tires put on today. Was going to get the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S, but the shop got the new Discoverer Road and Trail tires which are the replacement for the AT3 4S. Only had them for a short while and zi didn't get a chance to do a true back to back comparison, so this is just a subjective review.

Noise: couldn't notice any difference from the general grabbers

Comfort: slightly smoother ride and less bumpy than the grabbers.

Traction: able to hold a full launch, but I can spin them when punching it in a corner. Overall a little less in the dry than the grabbers, but they are also brand new and I need to wear them in a bit.

Efficiency: hard to tell with only a little over 30 miles on them, but it seems to be somewhere between 5 percent and 10 percent range hit.

Overall happy with them, but I definitely need more time on them.

SInce I started this thread I thought I should post which tires I finally selected. I had the Michelin Defender LTX M/S 2s installed last week at 36,128 miles. So far I have seen no noticeable range reduction. I averaged 3.3 miles/kw on the way home from the dealership which is rural roads with speeds limit of 55mph which i usually travel 60ish. They are very quiet and have been great so far. I'll give another update in a few thousands miles or so but so far I am very happy with my choice. I was also able to apply 40,000 ford pass points to the purchase of the tires which helped a lot on price.

I just got a set of Falken Wildpeak A/T3W in LT275/60R20 on the stock rims. They are considerably heavier (58 lbs) than the stock Hankook AT tires, and there seems to be a bit of a range hit - but it just turned cold here, too, so it's hard to tell how much. A little road noise, but nothing like the K02's on my old ICE truck.

The ride is a little stiffer, but I prefer the steering response and I expect they will do much better in snow/ice/wet conditions. And they actually look like AT tires, unlike the stock "AT" tires.
