Has anyone come across a OBD2 car scan app that works in apple carplay?
Nope on this end yet…, sure would be useful and cool if some app developer were to see this and create one.

It would be nice.

I've been using Android things for this for over ten years. I switched from an Asus tablet to a Pixel phone a couple of years ago and liked the convenience. I eventually caved and paid for another phone line, and I've grown to like the added flexibility. I now have a burner number to give websites, and I can take advantage of Android-specific functions and apps. That all started with a desire to monitor transmission temps with a Bluetooth protocol that iPhone can't speak.

Sure would! Car scan app … car play. Seems like a logical fit. I‘d love to see it all displayed on main screen, no squinting at my phone

There was an app both android and iPhone based for the Leaf called Leaf Spy that was and is still very popular with Nissan Leaf owners.

I came across this item for the Ford F-150, don't know anything about how good it is though, bluetooth but no mention of Apple Carplay.

https://www.cravenspeed.com/bluetooth-obdii-connector-for-ford-f-150-14th-gen/

"...This device allows your smartphone to connect to and display your vehicle's onboard diagnostic system. Plug it into the OBDII port, pair your device, and using one of many 3rd party applications you will be able to monitor a wide variety of parameters that are read by the vehicle's ECU. You can use these applications to:

  • Measure OBD Data streams
  • Scan and clear CELs
  • View Multiple Customizable gauges
  • Keep Data logs
  • Monitor MPG and Fuel Efficiency
  • View Engine Sensor Data
Save time and money by monitoring the health of your engine so you can approach service proactively. By clearing your own codes you can also avoid a costly trip to the dealer after performing your own maintenance. Compare to the Scangauge II...."

PS: also found this post. The comments suggest the price they are asking is steep though...

My CarPlay OBD Data App got Released!

Discussion

Might be of interest to you boys and girls with CarPlay but I recently built a new app and shipped it earlier last month. OBD2 values on the CarPlay screen, winning really.

https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/ontrack-obd2-scanner/id6446315145

Needs Bluetooth OBD Dongle, I built the app using this one https://amzn.eu/d/hTnwuOx

There was a post back a while ago, about why this was previously impossible but Apple semi-recently enabled developers to use "Driving Task" as a category, and furthermore, their presentation on it shown a vehicle trailers PSI on CarPlay - so got me thinking back in March, and here we are.

To keep vehicle agnostic, I make use of most standard OBD2 codes, not manufacturer specific, but if there is enough appetite, ill enable (like Auto Doctor does) ability to add Custom PID's in.
Any feedback on the app, any problems or whatever, drop me a message.

It works in CarPlay but doesn’t support EVs just allows you monitor ICE sensors.

Hopefully the other OBD apps will reclassify their apps to “Driving Task” so they show up in CarPlay.

I sent the dev a message asking about future updates. Also just an fyi it’s $30 if you want to monitor more than 2 sensors. I’d pay it

Cool that is great. Hopefully the developer makes it happen. I’d love to test it out.
I’d pay for a quality well made app for sure.
