Was thinking the certificates were expired, but the earliest in the chain is still good to Jan. 16, 2026.

Ford internal is not a globally recognized certificate authority. If they're using their own internal certificate authority, then all HTTP clients would have to have that certificate authority hard coded as one they should trust. By default, typical HTTP clients (web browsers, mobile phone OS communications libraries, etc.) would only have "public" well known certificate authorities. Not Ford internal. Their own custom client could and should have their own CA added as one that can be trusted. If they have mistakenly used some off-the-shelf client software that doesn't know about their internal certificate authority, that's the type of error you'd get.

Bottom line, Ford would need to fix it with a software update I think, if the client is misconfigured.

(Edit: or, if the error is on the server side and they weren't actually intending to use an internal CA, replace the certificate with one signed by one of the well known public certificate authorities.)

Thanks to all. Looks like I’m not alone in this problem!! Sounds like I need to call Ford back again and hope they can solve. Today I spent 30 min and they finally directed me to a number at electrify America. lol! What a mess

Don't bother. Just use any other functional app and check back periodically to see if they fix it (and then try to figure out what else they broke in the process)

The internet exists on chains of trust. For example, I trust you, you trust Taxmanhog, so it's safe for me to trust him.

HTTP (the transmission language of the internet) is not secure. So we encrypt it, but encryption must be able to be decrypted. So we use a chain of trust to pass along the key to decrypting it. This chain starts with the server presenting a certificate to the first link in the chain of trust. This certificate is issued from that link to the server and it's basically the server saying "here's the proof I'm the person you gave this to". Otherwise I could hijack the ford.com domain, and just have my server say "yeah I'm Ford, trust me" and trick you all in to giving me your Fordpass credentials. But instead what happens is my server doesn't have the correct certificate and the chain of trust is broken. That's when you see the above errors.

You have to pay for that trust to the first link in the chain, hence the jokes about not paying the bills.

Here's the other interesting bit. Certificates also use the time of day as part of the check. If the time on your local machine differs greatly from the time on the server, it can cast doubt on the certificate, and that's likely why we're seeing this problem. If it's a few customers, it's probably their time that's off the mark. But if it's everyone it's the server. Considering the issues Ford has had in their data center lately with the FCSPs being unable to connect, this isn't surprising.

I called ford and after talking to multiple organizations the “in vehicle electric group” did a couple hard reboots on my system and it worked!!! Magic!

Correction, now back to error message again. But whatever reset happened it did fix the charging issue I had with tripping my breaker.

I have seen this before when attempting to connect the truck to a public hotspot. The hotspot's DNS is trying to redirect to an internal page instead of your desired destination. The captive portal used by hotspots is designed for phones and laptops, but does not work as well with other devices such as our trucks. If the truck is attempting to connect to public wifi and you see this message, disconnecting from wifi and using the cellular connection should resolve the issue.
