I’ve seen people adding higher trims options to lower trim trucks (door keypad, front light bars, etc)… got me thinking.

I have a 2022 XLT… is it possible to add the Phone As A Key hardware (guessing Bluetooth receiver?) and reprogram with ForScan? Or is it embedded in the Lariat and Platinum Sync4A system that will be impossible to add to Pro and XLT trucks with Sync4?

Forgive me if this has already been asked, but was hard to find an answer when I searched given all the other posts about PAAK.

Nothing is impossible, but it is probably not economical. There is a RFA module that is missing in the console, and some differences in wiring the way accessories work like the Passive Entry system. Further, security is involved and set up is done through the FordPass app if I'm not mistaken. I don't think you will find any auto hacker willing to spend the money to try.

I devised my own 'paak', of sorts, for my PRO... and it works PERFECTLY.

- Leave the keyfob in the center console

- use the Ford Pass App to 'open' the door/s, or LOCK them...

done.

notes:
I also have an extra 'skeleton/emergency' key, from the keyfob, hidden on the frame, just in case.
I also purchased the Ford SECURICODE wireless entry keypad, and had my dealer PROGRAM it, since it takes FDRS... I mounted it WITHIN the charge port door.

Now, if the cellular network is slow, or not operational at all with the APP, I can open the charge port door, enter my code, and 'voila... I'm unlocked.
If THAT doesn't work, well, there's that good 'ol hidden key to try to find... : )

If it were ME I wouldn’t hide the fob in the truck. You might as well put a sign in the window that says, Steal Me.
If some thief gets into the truck, either by stealth or breaking a window, he doesn’t have to walk home—he just drives your truck.

I used to leave my fob in the truck 24/7 and just use the keypad to get in also.

Then, I saw a thread where someone who was having trouble getting the OTA mentioned that they also left their fob in the truck 24/7. Someone theorized that the fob's presence keeps the truck in a state of readiness that might DQ an update from being performed; so, they removed their fob and immediately started getting OTA updates. Seemed plausible enough for me; so, I removed my fob and finally started getting my OTA updates as well.

Plus, theft prevention. Dudes right - if someone smashes into your car, they're good to go with that complimentary key. I still do it sometimes but, man, will I feel like a fool if it ever gets taken. I wish PAAK was a thing for all trims or, at least, the ability to key a password into sync. I hate carrying things around with me.

You may be able to add the hardware for PAAK, but it runs through the FordPass app. Don't see how you'd get around that.
