The biggest problem for me is that less than 40% of all Tesla SuperChargers are V3, and coincidentally, none of the SuperChargers near me are in that 40%.

Since I charge at home, I'm not that concerned with that, but it's frustrating that they don't have support for the remaining 60%, so we lose 60% of the benefits of being able to use the SuperCharger Network.

I was looking forward to more than doubling the number of places we can charge for the summer, but now I realize most of those chargers won't work.

Now, I'm wondering if those V2 SuperChargers will end up skipping V3 and being updated to V4, which also are not compatible.

The bottom line is they need to add whatever software is needed so that you can simply pull up to a SuperCharger and know that it will work.

What is the best app these days for identifying all available plugs on trips from Southern to Northern California?

I charge my Tesla in Mammoth Lakes, no problem. Seems the Ford charging @Tesla stations is a ways out yet...... hopefully Ford gets things dialed in.

In some cases the problem lies with Tesla not properly setting the v3 supercharger up for non-Teslas.

Why do you think that V4 are not compatible?

There are plenty of Tesla Superchargers near Staten Island... https://www.tesla.com/findus?v=2&bo...ters=party,nacs&search=Staten Island, NY, USA

Currently on my way to Flagstaff AZ from Lake Tahoe and tried using my charger three times. Failed in Mammoth Lakes, Ca and just now in Barstow, Ca. I was successful in Lone Pine, Ca and at my local charger as a test in Tahoe. Not too happy and could have been stranded relying on the supercharger in Mommoth, but made it to Bishop luckily. Just curious if others are having the same hit and miss.
Thanks in advanced.
Edit: By the way, if anyone heading to Overland Expo in Flagstaff I’ll have my camper and truck inside the event with Four Wheel Campers. Stop by and say hi!

For each time for me, I have had to lean in on the charger adapter and the Tesla plug until it starts charging and it seems to lock in...If I do not lean in on it, my charging seems to fail.

Tesla App for compatible Tesla Superchargers and Destination chargers.
PlugShare for overall charger populations and user experiences for a particular site, but does not show Availability of EA or Tesla
A Better Route Planner — ABRP to plot a charger route for you
Charger Specific Apps like Charge Point, Electify AmErica, etc to get Availablity and be able to activate the chargers.

i use them all.

Because I live on an island, crossing a bridge just to charge is too expensive. To cross the bridge to Brooklyn is about $19, crossing to NJ costs $17.

As I said, I'm not too concerned about SuperChargers close to me because I charge at home. It's far more important that we can find them on highways when we travel.

As far as I know, the adapters only work with V3. If it works with V4, that's a bonus, but unfortunately most of the SuperCharges are V2. I hope they either upgrade them to V3 / V4, or at least fix the software to handle V2.

Agree, but was addressing there aren't a lot.

My understanding is V3 or V4 is fine.

15,500 we have access to. Yes, old V2 we cannot access. They have to update the location, not the software.

Both Tesla and Ford say v4 superchargers are compatible with NACS. In fact, many of them don't need the NACS adapter as many of the v4 installations to date have MagicDocks.

It's just funny that there are over 500,000 people living on my little Island, yet there are 12 Tesla SuperChargers and only 2 DC Fast Chargers (ChargePoint) which are nowhere near a highway because they're owned by the Parks Department and were intended for their fleet.

They're finally adding 12 more Tesla SuperChargers to a shopping center, and 2 CSS stalls. Unfortunately, those have been under constructions for at least a year and a half.

Right now none of the Island's Tesla SuperChargers work with the adapter, and technically Ford doesn't even list the 2 DC Fast Charges on the FordPass App, because technically, they were built for the Parks Department use.

Basically, anyone without a home charger is out of luck owning a non-Tesla EV on the Island.

As you know, DC chargers are not intended for home charging, they're for travelers. With multiple locations off-island, people can charge before arriving.

As Colin to put fast chargers on his ferry?

I agree. I don't think I will ever need to use a DC Fast Charger on the Island, but there are quite a few people who are not allowed to use an AC charger living in New York City.

For what it's worth, those 12 SuperCharger stalls are used heavily because most EV owners living in apartment buildings, Coops, Condos, Townhouses, and subdivisions with a Home Owners Association have no choice but to use the 12 Tesla SuperChargers as their only way to charge.

The vast majority of people in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx are also limited to DC Charging as their primary method of charging too, just as it is likely the case with other major cities.

The bigger issue here is that anyone traveling through Staten Island, on their way to other parts of the City don't have any DC chargers near a highway.

For mass adoption to work, there shouldn't be entire communities that are limited to one brand of vehicle, and there should be DC Chargers along every major highway.

It's not just big metropolitan areas. When I was charging at an EA in a suburb of Austin Texas in the late evening, I saw several folks that appeared to be residents nearby. I swear one guy was wearing pajamas.

DC charging will be just like neighborhood gas stations for many folks for quite some time. You wonder why they bought it in the first place but everyone has their reasons.

So maybe not the intent for many of us who have the luxury of home charging but it is the reality for some.
