1.4 kwh/mi on interstate…disappointed.

Had my lightning for just about 10 days and while I love it so far, I was pretty disappointed with this efficiency. Of those 49 miles, 36 or so were on the interstate, setting cruise to 79 mph. All flat on I-95 in Coastal Georgia. The first 13 or so miles were from my house to interstate, and up to that point it had gotten about 2 to 2.1 on those 13 miles (cityish driving). Outside temp hovered between 65-70 as sun was coming up.

Is this what I should expect for interstate driving at that speed? It was close to 30% of the battery. Will it take a while to “break in”? I’ve got about 750 miles on the truck. At this point I might just as well put 37” mud tires on it

Sounds about right for 80 MPH. Backing it off to 70 will be a noticeable improvement since all of your energy consumption is fighting wind drag.

This is what happens when you drive any EV at high speed. 79 MPH is going to get you around that miles per kWh. This isn't a deficiency or poor performance. This is every EV. You are just learning about it, which everyone learns at some point. Your disappoint is because you didn't know

I get between 1.6 and 2.0 on the interstate around 75mph depending on outside temp and wind.

There is no break in period. Slow down and make sure your tires are properly inflated if efficiency is your goal. Wind direction makes a big difference too.

Into the wind at 80 here in South Dakota I've manged to push it down to 1.2.

Your net air speed is the vector sum of the vehicle speed and the wind. Wind can make a huge difference both ways.

Best way to get good efficiency at 80 is find an suv, tractor trailer, or some other large vehicle going that speed and draft it. I always set my adaptive to the closest follow setting and find someone to draft. I usually get 1.8 - 2.3 mi/kwh at highway speeds going between 75-80, always drafting if possible. If there is no one to draft, I’ll drop to around 72 until I find someone to draft. Did this the whole way to MI and back to FL.

Having made two 1,600 mile trips from Maryland to Maine & back I find the sweet spot to be 73mph - above that you go thru miles like greased lightning.

Your average speed was 62 mph and 13 miles of the 49 miles was city driving? Seems like you were moving at a pretty good clip for the entire trip. I have to drive it pretty hard to get down to 1.4. If you're the lead car though and there's any type of a head wind, you can get down that low. I'm at a lifetime average of 2.3 after 31,000 miles in 20 months. Highway speed limit in PA is 70 mph, so I try to keep cruise at 77. You can get better efficiency if you want it, you'll just need to slow down.

Agreed, I receny drove 200 miles and if I kept closer to 70 or just under (2.0kwh) I got another 25-35 miles of range. On my 2024 flash.
