Hello All,

I’m at the point of selling or trading my Lightning due to getting a 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack. I filled out the KBB instant buy and got a guaranteed offer of $28,600 that multiple dealerships will give me. I feel the truck is worth a lot more. Clean title, I’ve been the only owner, and battery health is still at 100%. I’ve just started the selling process but just wanted to ask the group if I’m crazy to pass on the $28,600 and push for mid 30s. Anyone had luck private selling these vehicles? Thank you for all the great knowledge you all have provided these past few years. Great community for sure!

Matt

You may get a little bit more than $29k, but not a lot more. All vehicles depreciate a lot in the first few years of ownership, which is why if you’re not planning on keeping a vehicle for at least 4-5 years, leasing is sometimes a better deal. With most vehicles (and EVs right now are depreciating more quickly than ICE vehicles, at least in the US), you lose ~20% in year 1 and 10-15% in the next few years before it flattens out, depending on the vehicle and your local market. So a 2022 Pro might have cost $50k new, not including taxes, registration, etc... After 3 years, losing 40% (20/10/10) gets you to $30k. I know it sucks, but it’s just what happens. I paid $26k for a new Subaru Forester in 2015, and sold it exactly 8 years later when I bought my Lightning, to a private party for $8.5k. That’s 68% depreciation over the 8 years. Pretty much on target.

That new Charger looks beautiful. I am curious to know your thoughts on the car, especially since you’re clearly experienced driving an EV. The initial reviews are not great but I think they nailed the exterior design. How’s it handle? No doubt it’s quick, but how it does on twisty backroads would be more important, at least if I was trading in the Lightning for a sports car.

If people are getting 40-45 in trade for 2022 Lariats and Platinums then 28-30K doesn't seem totally off for a pro. Don't get me wrong, it totally sucks for us who are taking a bath on resale values, but it is the reality.

It’s a really nice ride. I’ve enjoyed it so far. To be fair I work for Stellantis and get a smoking executive lease deal on it. But the hate to me is based on the price. Mine stickered at $83k.

Beautiful looking truck. You sure you can't keep it? I have a very similar 2023 truck (XLT however), and I would do everything possible to keep driving it, because the initial depreciation has been so steep. I am planning on driving it 10+ years to make it worth what i paid for it, but I understand that people's situations change.

:)

It’s hard to replace at that price point but I’d like to trade back. Wife said I could keep it though….😁

I’m actually in great shape on it. MSRP was $41,769 and with the rebate of $7,500 I started in a great spot. If $29k is what I end up with, that’s pretty solid after 20 months. And the truck has been absolutely amazing! Can’t say enough good about it.

The Charger gets a lot right but it’s some of the small, overlooked things that hold it back. I feel it handles well but you know the weight is there. Exterior is striking and draws a lot of attention. Interior is very well appointed. The car is not for everyone but I’m really enjoying it.

Beautiful car, actually looks like a unique car instead of all the nearly identical looking xyz models that have been released in the last decade where every brand's new offerings look just like every other brand.
I love the black shadow lines with the deep red body. Classy.

Hey since you're "in the know" - what is the word on the RamCharger release date???
