Installed wiring for ev charger while remodeling my garage
Looks great! I just ordered a 40A JuiceBox myself and have to get it installed. I've got to get up into the hot attic to wire it in the garage and not looking forward to that part.Installed wiring for ev charger while remodeling my garage
I'm assuming you aren't getting the charge station pro?Installed wiring for ev charger while remodeling my garage
For the extra wiring cost of commercial NEMA outlet plus wiring, I've decided to put that towards a 2nd 48amp charger that I can order and hardwire before the truck arrives. I can only support a 60amp circuit in the house panel anyway, so will move the pro 80amp charger to the my shop bldg. where it can have a full 100amp circuit.I'm assuming you aren't getting the charge station pro?
I really think Ford messed up not giving folks the option to take delivery of the charger early (without SunRun installation, for those that know what they are doing).
I'm in a bind - do I:
1) Pull an extra neutral wire such that I can have a NEMA outlet and use the included charger that comes with the truck temporarily?
2) Wait it out until the charge station pro shows up (which needs to be hardwired, and does not need a 4th (neutral) wire).
My "wait it out" is going to involve switching sides with my wife, using the 48amp hardwired charger on her side of the garage, and then daisy-chaining her BMW (X5 45e) to the 9.6kw output of the truck!!!
What are others doing?
Makes sense - I'm pretty happy with this cheapo 48amp - put a second one at my in-laws too. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09BP1GM76?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detailsFor the extra wiring cost of commercial NEMA outlet plus wiring, I've decided to put that towards a 2nd 48amp charger that I can order and hardwire before the truck arrives. The NEMA 14-50 neutral on the Ford Mobile charger doesn’t connect to anything. So you could pull 6/2 romex and install a NEMA 6-50 plug then just get a 6-50 to 14-50 adapter.I'm assuming you aren't getting the charge station pro?

Interesting - thanks for that info! I'm still just debating whether to pull wire twice or just wait until I have the charge station pro and pull thicker THHN. I'm not sure if I want/need all the way up to 80 amp but 60 would be nice. The NEMA 14-50 neutral on the Ford Mobile charger doesn’t connect to anything. I've been ignoring their calls. I just had a Chargepoint Flex hardwired to a 60 amp breaker last week. Just going to stick with that and sell the pro station when I get it.Got a phone call today from Sunrun giving me approx cost of installation of just the charge pro. I was quoted around $1700 just for that install as it was the only option I wanted as of now. I currently have ClipperCreek HCS-D50 which will do to charge truck one day and MME the next. Maybe next yr I will do install of the pro station
Solid, love my Flex.I've been ignoring their calls. I just had a Chargepoint Flex hardwired to a 60 amp breaker last week. Just going to stick with that and sell the pro station when I get it.
Yes. Their Vehicle Visibility system provides more detail during shopping, too.It seems like the dealers may have slightly more accurate production date than the 5/16 week window we get on the website. I reached out to my dealer today and their system shows my truck going into production May 17, 2022. Every little of bit of information is encouraging!
