Went to start our 23 Lariat and truck started sending error codes:

Stop truck now
Frunk error
Passenger door open
Etc

Only into accessory mode, would not start. Cycled it twice, tried to open frunk (wouldn’t), same errors. However on the tablet/screen it said “Screen powered down to protect low battery”.

The HV battery was showing 63% so I assume that means the 12v.

Said a few choice words in Ford’s direction - I just bought our fourth Lightning this morning - tried it again and it started (still showing frunk error).

I’ve got the truck home now and it starts as normal - any simple way to see 12v health? Last time I called dealer it was 2 weeks to rotate tires…. Prefer not to lose the truck for a few weeks if I don’t have to.

If it is a weak 12v, anyone get a warranty replacement or should I just bite the bullet and buy new? If so is a gel or marine/solar better for these trucks?

Check the connections, check the battery. Not rocket science, any shop can do that.

Pull the fuse. Right lower panel passenger side, #32 wait five minutes put fuse back in , if fuse NOT blown for a good reason comma should restore try to start while connected to a home charger nothin fancy hope it helps

Interesting, the truck was having connectivity issues earlier in day with Ford Pass App where it couldnt connect to truck. I use PAAK.

OBDII reader will show you 12v battery info, Ford website will show you 12v SOC. I'd take to Autozone and have them check the battery for free.

I missed that! I don't check Ford's website that often since I use an OBDII reader.

Thanks half way down that rabbit hole and couldnt find anything - though apparently the truck is in "Excellent state of health" according to Ford.

What's the actual charging process for 12v? If I stick a tender in frunk plugged in and flip propower on while driving as a regular background process will that keep it topped up better then BMS is doing?

Okay this leads me to battery itself is a dud? This truck sees multiple 200+ mile runs a week and lives on a level 2 charger - no logical reason the 12v isnt being kept topped up by the truck itself.

The hassles/cost of it dieing somewhere are way more then preventatively replacing battery.

We'll put it as a 25k mile PM, no other maintenance costs anyway lol. I'm sure we can find home for the batteries in other equipment.

Yes TCM my thinking is something is “telling” the battery to drain so “HALT” comes reboot. It worked on F4s in Nam….

I might have missed it in the thread ... have you had the updated 12 volt BMS module replacement completed?

l suspect both counts of this, we likely put more cycles in 3 months then most in year and yes it sat for 12 months on lot before we bought it ($20k off msrp) dealer almost paid us to take it.

On this truck I asked when we picked it up and was told 2 recalls had already been done (have not received and nothing shows any outstanding) - of our others only one did I receive the BMS recall.
