Is it like this for most vehicles sold that the trims just get worse over each progressive model year, or is this just a Ford/Lightning thing?
It is not a Ford thing. Other OEMs have made changes over the life cycle of a particular trim. Sometimes it’s based on customer feedback and other times it’s based on economics if the OEM is trying to stay at a particular price point to be competitive. It just depends upon the OEM.

That would be really dumb not to be updated to NACS.

Using my adaptor is not a giant hassle, but why?
Ford would have to engineer a new charge port, add electronics and programming to the truck to make having AC and DC on the same pins possible and then change every CCS/J1772 charger out at the assembly plant and holding lots.

Not cheap.

Lariat keeps the 131kWh battery. Only Flash gets the 122 battery.
This seems like an odd decision by Ford. I get that basically it is the same battery with one less module and hit helps differentiate the higher trims more from the Flash, but it add an extra complexity to service and ordering, makes the XLT and Flash fall further behind the competition in range compared to the current ER. Especially odd when they are having to heavily discount all the lines except the pro to move them.

131 - 122 = 9

131 ÷ 9 = 14.55

So, roughly every 15th Flash has a free (ish) battery. Classic FMC cost cutting.
