I am pretty confident RAM knows they are going to have to deliver the goods if they want to compete with Silverado EV (and Lightning--either v1 or v2).

I can't see them coming into the market in late 2024 with less than 400mi range and decent charging at 800v.

Let's be honest, the Lightning was able to get by with current specs because it beat GM/RAM to market by 18-24mths. The market will demand more of future trucks...

I bet the Lightning would have been delayed by at least a year and would have cost 10-20% more if they had incorporated an 800V system. They probably would have had to design their own 800v components because there wasn't a lot of off-the-shelf options at the time they were developing it. I think they made the right decision with the 1st gen because it allowed them to beat GM/Stellantis/Tesla to market. It will definitely be a miss if the 2nd gen doesn't have 800V capability, though.

I don't think the heat pump is that big of a deal on inefficient vehicles like trucks. I assume the PTC heater draws around 6-7 kW if it's similar to the Mach-E. A heat pump would draw 2-3kW. That would cost you 10 miles range per hour assuming 2mi/kWh efficiency. Every little bit of efficiency improvement counts and I assume every BEV will eventually have a heat pump, but it probably wasn't worth the squeeze for the 1st gen.

I'm more excited about the Ram than any of the other EVs on the horizon. If Ram can deliver 400 miles range with 800V architecture I will gladly trade in our Lightning when it goes on sale. The Ram's much nicer interior, air suspension and 4 wheel steering would make it an even easier trade.

I was pleasantly surprised by the design of the RAM(vs the concept). If the specs are good and price is competitive, its worth considering vs Silverado EV vs Lightning Gen2.

I knew the concept was a concept, but I didn't realize it would end up being a complete pipe dream. Looks like they removed all of the stuff that might actually give the Ram an advantage over early movers.

My opinion is everyone is overthinking EVs. EVs don't have to a revolutionary design or platform. Most people moving from ICE to EV don't want a revolutionary design.

The EV powertrain alone makes the experience much better than gas. The Lightning is a perfect example. The frunk is nice, but what sells it is the smoothness, power, efficiency, etc.

RAM is playing it smart here...

I'm glad the production unit looks the way it does, I feel better putting down my $100 "save me a spot" fee because if the numbers are good, I'll gladly trade in my lightning for one when the RAM releases. Some of us just want an ev truck, not a futuristic design of things we'd never use more than once.

Big agree on the lack of 800V being a miss. Disagree on impact of no heat pump.

Just saw this ad during the Super Bowl and found it pretty humourous. As many of us have discovered/discussed, the issues around current gen tech and towing can be challenging. But good to know Dodge is bringing a solution to market "late 2024"

@Administrator I'm all for clean boards, but the thread I started about the ad being merged with this one on the truck itself is maybe a touch aggressive.

My intent was to share and discuss the range anxiety specifically around towing, and Dodges clever (IMO) way of making light about it. Then we could turn the tables and poke fun at them not delivering for another 2 years

Too bad the pass through didn’t make it to production. Also I was really hoping ram would use the tesla connector. Giving themselves access to superchargers would have been a HUGE selling feature even if the range wasn’t the best in class.

Holy crap! I didn't notice they updated the page with what it REALLY looks like until late yesterday when I was telling a friend about it and pulled up the refreshed page. Why show off the concept (which i really like) so close to the reservations opening and also put a bunch of pics of ut on the reservation page only to change it later? Kind of misleading..bait and switch. They should have stayed true to the concept design instead of just throwing a battery on a ram sort of like ford did with the lightning. I'll decide what I'm gonna do later when the pricing comes out, but I'm not liking this trickery.

That nicer interior may only be for their top of the line trim. They may pull a fast one and put a bunch of crap inside the base versions like Chevy did with their WT. If they try throwing in an 8" screen on the lower end trims, I'm out. Hopefully they have a modernversion of unconnect. Its way better than sync IMHO, but still junky.

Same goes for the 4 wheel steering and air suspension..probably only available in highest trim. But they may wait to see how tesla adds these features in. If Tesla makes them standard on all trims, it may force their hand.
