Once my truck received the update that shows battery % inside the battery meter on the dash, I disabled auto-updating, as well as a plethora of other auto-communication features.

Theoretically next decent update rolls out, I hear about it 6 months after it was originally unsuccessfully pushed to my vehicle, but miss it because of my desire for privacy. If I re-enable auto updates (months later) and hit “check for updates” will it see the update and initiate installing it at the programmable pre-determined time window?

I hope I’m communicating properly.
Thanks!

I've read reports from the FDRS experts that offerings via OTA expire, the question I have is does the expiration age-out start upon first failed attempt or when first posted to your VIN for deployment?

There are only a few folks on the forum that are privacy sensitive, hopefully they can share their experiences .

AFAIK the OTA age-out begins from the 1st OTA attempt, and lasts about 2 - 3 months before the OTA offering expires. This anecdotal info is from interacting with friendly dealer tech advisor PTS users and assiduously reading Mike G's and rugedraw's posts across three Ford forums (fora?), since 2022.

Personal experience from trying to update two Mach E Mustangs in a friend's family: my friend's adult son followed his dad's example and got himself a used Mach E. This one had been sitting at a Kia dealer's lot for about a year, and of course was sold "as is" to the young man. THAT early model Mach E was, let's say, er... unloved as far as software updates go... as far as we could tell it had never received an update, ever.

I had an annual FDRS license at the time. It took, literally, a week to update that early Mach E. As soon as we finished one long update session, newer updates would then unmask. One night, the young man practically slept in that Mach E until 1 A.M. as very stacked-up USB updates kept processing haha.

Moral of the story: as far as I understand it, the OTA updates fall off the availability shelf after 60 - 90 days or so but they do remain available thru FDRS... and that allows these uninstalled software updates to seriously stack up into a very high hill to climb, when finally the attempt can be made.

In my opinion, this hard-to-assess time & labor factor will make almost any dealership wary of attempting to update a seriously out-of-date Ford used EV. In such a case, a month's long FDRS license can more that pay its way.

This is an opportunity for a specialty services business, for the right price I'd pay for someone's time to get a vehicles software up to date.

I know, right? I've been thinking of exactly that... with the Lightning's power ports to carry the current, in case of an upgrade session for an apartment dweller or on-travel owner, and the Lightning's WiFi capability to connect back to the FDRS mothership in Detroit during update sessions.
