Averaging 1.5 mi/kwh @ 32 degrees down from 1.8 mi/kwh last year. As the title says efficiency has gone done by more than 15% compared to last year. This is highway driving, no preconditioning. AC set to auto 1 @ 65 degrees.

The only thing different is the set of tires. Last year still had the original OEM AT Dynapro tyres. This year I have the OEM Goodyear Wrangler all season tires which are supposed to be EV specific.

I thought the tires would be better for efficiency, so I am not sure why the efficiency is lower this year.

Is anybody experiencing something similar? As the battery ages, does it become less efficient? (As a system: coolant, pumps, cells, etc)

The Goodyears are supposed to be at 42 based on the door sticker for the 24 trucks that have these new tires. My door sticker is different because it came with the Hankook Dynapro AT which is set at 36. Tire pressure is not an issue since I am running them at the higher pressure.

From all that I have read, it shouldn't be the mechanics of the truck, but software update??

Perhaps test turning off the auto climate control and use the manual controls to see if that has been changed by update.

Was the summer efficiency between both tires comparable? So many variables with cold weather its hard to tell. Even a slight headwind in cold weather has an exponential effect compared to warm weather headwind.

it was lower but not as noticeable around 3-5%

I’ll try playing around with it. I want to also check the battery and coolant temperatures.

Our truck came from the dealer with the Wranglers...have found them to be fairly efficient. During summer months we got 2.2 kw/mi going 75mph on interstate. Run them at the recommended 42psi.

This was my drive to work today . Truck was in garage plugged in and set to warm cabin at 5:30 am. Seat warmers on and heat set to 75 degrees. I say pretty darn good at 21 deg temp sport mode .

not bad at all. Do you have a heat pump? (Disregard, I guess not by looking at your total miles)

But this is a different scenario. I am looking for a comparison with no preconditioning, seating outside and just drive.

I still only have level 1 home charging at the moment (can’t precondition with level 1) and I park outside. Temps in the low 30s F and I’m seeing about the same efficiency around 1.8 but I keep my cabin heat a little cooler around 70F. Average commute speed around 60mph. In the first part of my commute avg speed is much lower around 30mph and during those first 20 mins of cold start driving I see as low as 1.1 for efficiency. So it would appear preconditioning may make a huge difference in winter.

Make sure you're using recirculation on the HVAC when in heat mode. No sense in heating up the cold outside air at great cost. You may need to keep the AC enabled to keep the cabin from getting too humid and fogging up the windows. But that is still much less of a load on the heater than 100% outside air.

It seems to me like the 1.5 mi/kwh is about normal for anything at freezing or below. With any software updates over the past year, I wonder if Ford updated some algorithms to make a more true mi/kwh with all the data they collect...?
