Every other car I have used CarPLay on provides the ability to interact with CarPlay using physical buttons, knobs, etc. on the vehicle. For SYNC4 in the F-150, I have not found an physical controls that interact with CarPlay: I can only interact via the touchscreen.

Am I missing something?

I have read, though have not yet confirmed, that when your screen is on the CarPlay tab, the "speak" button on your steering wheel is supposed to be routed to your phone/Siri and not Sync 4. I can't recall where I saw that, but maybe worth checking out. It might stand to reason that the other buttons will interact with CarPlay when it's the active tab. I'll have to check this out as your post jogged my memory here of reading that, and I wanted to know myself.

Yes, when using CarPlay, a press & release of the voice commad button accesses the SYNC4 and a press & hold activates Siri. I am wanting a physical button or knob to traverse menus with instead of using the touchscreen.

Our old G80 used a rotary knob with a push button in the console to interact with CarPlay when engaged.

Our new E350 supports using the steering wheel infotainment control buttons to do the same thing.

No there isn’t any way to interact with it and it’s annoying as hell. I’m used to idrive with a similar rotary controller which was super easy to use

Interesting... prior to my current truck, I've only used carplay in two other vehicles; my previous 2018 F150 with Sync 3 (and the Chevy Traverse I rented after I wrecked it). Obviously, I didn't invest a lot of time getting used to the rental's controls, but I don't think either vehicle had any tactile carplay controls other than a "voice command" button used to invoke Siri. I CAN say for sure that both F150s (the '18 and my current '21) can/could only be controlled using the touchscreen or the phone itself.

Yes this is annoying! I just got my truck and am still trying to find the mute button and equivalent to the “source” button.

Hi All

I'm using Carplay without (too much) of an issue.

Steering wheel controls volume and next/last song and press the speak button accesses Siri.

I have it paired through bluetooth and (I have learnt) plug in the USB AFTER I start the truck. It then keeps it charged while I listen to my music/playlists etc.

It's a mistake to leave it plugged in as it seems to get confused as to whether to pair via bluetooth or USB and I've recently had a bright blue screen of de@th until I stopped and locked/unlocked the truck.

If I don't use the USB then the iphone just pairs and continues to play my music from where I left off as soon as it's connected. Fine for short trips....

I have Spotify running through it and can also access my itunes if I want to play my old CD's loaded on my phone... same as above via steering wheel.

Calls come in and I have volume/answer/cancel through the steering wheel.

The mute button is apparently the start/pause button on the audio controls.... haven't tried it yet...

Yes, plus on right side bottom of screen when audio is on right. I miss it on the steering wheel as it was the most used button in the truck.
