disappointing. seems like cybertruck includes a whole bunch of stuff no-one asked for and left out the one thing EV truck owners wanted. range.
Same as the lightning. Many trinkets and gizmos most people don't want and wouldn't buy.

The base model CT is basically around the same range as an SR F150, but doesn't have AWD and isn't out for another year... so the 60k figure will likely become 65 or 67 by then... Also my SR is definitely able to do faster than 6.5 sec 0-60.

So basically I got a truck for around the same price, with more capability, and I will have had it for 2 years while CT people wait...

I'm honestly very surprised how this all turned out.

Fun times! Dusting off my mechanical engineering, statics and dynamics!

The tongue weight of the trailer JDM (just doesnā€™t matter) because the trailer has wheels supporting it which minimizes the Fulcrum ā€œmomentā€ of the tongue if memory serves.

The issue is mass behind the rear axle - with no trailer - as the car is normally moving forward.

The weight in the frunk is not much of an issue given the normal forward movement. It would be an issue if you were backing up a (very) steep hill though.

I am always amused when we go to downhill biking events and see Lexus RXs, etc. pulling a wheelie as they have a heavy bike hitch with 4 heavy bikes on an incline with just a driver!

I have much college football to watch this weekend. When I recover on Sunday I will find my textbooks and review the fulcrum math. Itā€™s going to be a function of mass forward of the pivot axle, mass behind the pivot axle, the angle of the hill and extra mass in the storage compartment. Guessing it would need to be around 370 kg in the storage compartment before an incident would occur at slow speeds on a steep (but still legal) roadbed. At higher speeds the ā€œbadnessā€œ mass would drop given potential roadbed perturbations and front end ā€œbounceā€.

BTW You have the best color Lightning!
I must disagree with what you just said here.

I believe I have the best color Lightning. šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£

Yeah I left those off because to me they are debatable.

I don't think the end user cares if it's 800V or 48V LVB. Only if those thing are reflected in things people care about like charge rate and 800V isn't needed for 250kW charge rate. Saving some copper doesn't really add to the user experience.

Steer by wire is not a positive in my opinion, more to break and I don't have a problem with traditional steering (turning the wheel more in a parking lot or whatever).

I dislike the under bed storage for the same reason I dislike it in the Rivian. It just naturally seems to collect dirt and if you are using the bed, you don't really have to access to it, you have to unload stuff. I'd rather have a giant frunk.

But I have no problem with other people considering those things pros. It's subjective.
Anything that can make a truck more maneuverable, charge faster and get off the antiquated 12V system is a positive to me. Drive by wire can break as well, heck anything software driven is prone to failure. Ford did a great job converting the excellent F 150 platform, but there was no real innovation. Using off the shelf parts keeps everyone happy. Unions, dealerships, and part suppliers make CT innovations impossible for Ford at the current time.

Iā€™m not being an owner of EVs since 2017. It didnā€™t add up to me from the start. The battery alone didnā€™t make it a viable platform for under $60k. A 98kWh battery, AWD, crew cab, LEDs, screen tech, powered frunk, etc. I owned a 2017 Bolt that cost the same as my 2023 Lightning Pro. Tesla doesnā€™t compete on price until scale is achieved. They baited Ford into low ball pricing. Iā€™m happy they did and commend Ford for honoring the price to some extent.

Interesting concept. I can see some enterprising aftermarket company building this kind of bed mounted range extender for the Lightning. Personally I think Iā€™ll wait until my ER battery dies and then replace it with a 600 mile solid state battery that should be available by then.
nice thought, I'll hold it for the next friend who asks me how much it will cost to replace a battery: "at 100,000 miles I'll replace with new technology (SS) and get 30% more range! :)

Agreed. CT fanboys bashed the Lightning range and price for years.

If anything Farley could give the Limited a bump in Power to match the 2.6
Itā€™s funny bc a software update could give it to more than just the limited. But honestly The speed now is too fast. My wife wonā€™t even drive it sheā€™s afraid of my lightning. Wish it had a lower power mode

This to me is evidence that the big advancements everyone is waiting for in "nextgen" products isn't coming any time soon. The leading EV company worked on this for years and couldn't really best the Lightning.

yes, but cybertruck isn't for truck owners, it's for Tesla owners
The two people I know who want a CT are already Tesla owners but donā€™t want two BEVs so thereā€™s your market.

If the baiting for is true. Then how stupid is Chevy. They will never be able to offer those battery sizes at that cost.

The latest trend is everyone lying about what they are going to release in a year or 2. Maybe the purpose is to stop other manufactures from getting their sales? I have no idea. I'm sure there were plenty of people passing on the Lightning because the CT was going to be so much better. We will see the same thing from GM and RAM soon enough. Let's not even get into people waiting for Toyota's solid state batteries.

Ford will have Toyotas solid state battery and Mercedes ā€œAxial Fluxā€ motor.m before both of them lmao. Ford quietly makes an ev truck and tells every other manufacturer to basically hold my beer. I traded in a 6.7 for the lightning. And I myself am shocked at what ford pulled off and the pretty solid job they did on this truck.
