Everything about the Cybertruck is still pure speculation until they release preproduction units for the media to actually review. If this actually has a stainless steel body, and that's a big IF in my opinion, there is no way these prices being thrown out will hold. If this thing is based on the Model X platform, how could it ever cost the same or less than that model? The rest of the design is so bonkers and polarizing, there is no way this will ever be a mainstream vehicle. Just my opinion.

Tesla has been rather tight-lipped about final price and specifications for the CyberTruck -- they removed detailed pricing and specifications from the web site earlier this year, which (IMHO) means that the truck they actually deliver may be a good bit different than what they had hoped a few years ago.

The current best guess puts the CyberTruck somewhere in between a Ranger and an F-150 in terms of overall exterior size, but payload and towing capacities that have been mentioned put it in direct competition with full-size pickups (which would of course include the F-150 Lighting). It looks like Tesla has reduced the size of their frunk as much as possible so that they could maximize the size of the bed. It is hard to guess the quality of the interior, but I'm guessing that Tesla is aiming for a "sweet spot" somewhere between Ford's XLT and Lariat trims.

Given Tesla's recent aggressive pricing strategy, I'd guess that they will somewhat undercut Lightning prices for roughly similar capabilities and trim levels. For the AWD CyberTrucks, I'd expect the 300mi-range dual-motor version to come in somewhere between the price of an SR and ER XLT Lightning, while the 400mi-range tri-motor CyberTruck should command a slight premium over the price of an ER Lightning due to greater range and higher towing and payload.
From the photos we have, it looks like they are matching the Model 3 / Model Y interior wise which puts it well below the Pro interior in my opinion.

I'd expect the Premium Cybertruck to be the tri-motor, 500 mile range on a single charge version, with a 14,000 lb towing capacity, 250kW charging capability (standard for all Cybertrucks was the promise), a 6.5 ft bed with 3500 lb 100 cuft capacity, slide out tail gate that can act like a ramp for your Harley

It will be able to seat 6 people and have a 17 in. infotainment screen.

I suppose Tesla is planning on doing what Ford did and putting out the high end maximum profit versions first, with the entry level ($40k) single motor, 300 mile range version later.

As of recently, Tesla Cybertruck had over 1 million reservations, dwarfing what the Lightning had.

How many will follow through is up in the air. Ford had an estimated 80%+ drop-out rate due to the price increases.

Seems to me, whoever mass-produces an basic entry level EV pickup priced in the $40k's will dominate the market, the way the Model T did back in the day.

Same with EV sedans and SUV's - make them affordable, practical, and if you build them, they will come.

Seems like businesses these days focus too much on short term profits and ignore the opportunity to dominate in the long run by giving people what they need.
I can't tell if this is satire or not. Do people seriously believe it's going to have a 3400lb payload, a harley ramp and a $40K version?

Yes, just hop over to the Cybertruck forums. Apparently the Cybertruck will put all Truck builders out of business, tow over 200 miles and save the world….. all at $39k

Don't forget, it floats. So it's a double use item. Just need an outboard.

If it has the rear wheel steering with a substantially tighter turning radius than the F-150, that will be a nice selling point. It may be Ugly, but your mother loves you, right? Will be interesting to see if your local contractor will be buying a fleet of them.

One of my biggest concerns with it is that even the slightest damage is going to cost a fortune. I bet if that windshield wiper breaks it's a 1000$ repair. I'm guessing that after a year the only ones willing to insure it will be Tesla Insurance.

It seems like this was someone at Ford's original thoughts but then someone else along the way decided differently.

I feel like battery supply constraints really put a damper on the Pro trim availability. As a company, if you can sell a $40k vehicle, or an $80k vehicle (that costs maybe $10k extra to build) which one will you choose?
As we are seeing now, they are running out of people willing to buy at the $80k price so they are making more lowered priced vehicles available.

Ya I remember people complaining about the aluminum body on the f150 being expensive to fix when it first came out. Good luck with stainless steel.

It’s not enough of a point to overcome the sh$% build quality and lack of utility. I’d rather have my Mega Power frunk and Pro Power than Tesla’s first attempt at rear wheel steer. Unibody trucks are BS.

As it turns out, the cheapest way to build a vehicle isn’t the best way. So, called “giga” casts are developing cracks in Model Ys built in Texas.

I'd love to see what Munro and company would say about this. They are the best equipped to give an informed answer if they wanted to do so.

It's like the metal had some impurities or was cooled at the wrong speed after casting. Doesn't look good though. Surely won't help in resale and would even seem that it might have to be disclosed?

If it is somehow fundamentally flawed in all Y's that would be one heck of a recall that they aren't equipped to deal with. They wouldn't be able to quickly make replacement parts and wouldn't have the service tech's to do that much work.
