To me the interior makes a huge difference and also development. Ive seen this truck in person and it looks fragile to me, I dont know why, I know it's not but as an owner Id be paranoid to anything happening to it, scratch, dent, whatever.

With the Lightning not so much, any body shop can repair the body.

Interior is huge (edit: a huge issue that’s is so undersized) , but yes reliability / repairability is another major concern. The way Tesla is going (Model Y and Cybertruck) and much of the industry has plans to follow is with the massive high pressure underbody structural castings "Gigacast". As someone in manufacturing and involved in automotive castings, the whole concept is fascinating and I see the benefits from a manufacturing efficiency standpoint. The big negative that no one is talking about is that if those underbody castings get compromised in any manner the vehicle is almost certainly totaled.

I did find this little shot interesting. It's not Sandy's video he just happen to be in the crowd. The Sub trunk was something i had not picked up on before.

I'm no engineer, but it seems like *that* would have been the spot for the 'range extender' battery that takes up a third of the bed in it's current form...

Welp. On that note! That was fast.

WOW.... many lightnings have been repaired, where do you take your cyber truck to get repaired? what company is insuring the cyber truck? premiums must be very high.

The Range Extender is a significant new concept: a 30-40kWh removable battery pack that rides in the bed. Certainly could be duplicated in a Lightning! Cost unknown, but a 14kWh Tesla Powerwall costs about $13k, and weighs 250lbs…. so, Cybertruck Range Extender is likely $25k+, and 500lbs+. Still, a clever way to meet/exceed Silverado EV range, as an optional upgrade, rather than building an enormous battery pack into every truck.

It's pretty good news for us Lightning owners and should support resale value.

CT pros over the Lightning:
- 4wheel steering (more to break?)
- air suspension (nice but also more to break)
- radical looks (for some buyers)
- Tesla software (but I prefer CarPlay)
- 250kW charge speed
- bullet resistant, stronger glass (not sure this is that important to most buyers)

Lightning pros over CT:
- The Lariat trim is actually about $8K less than CT-AWD trim after dealer incentives
- Almost exactly the same perf as CT-AWD
- bigger bed, bigger frunk, bigger interior
- traditional looks (for some buyers)
- big service network
- spare tire standard and in the standard location (under the bed)
- you can actually get one
Other Pros of CT:
800V
48V system
Steer by wire
Under bed storage

GO buy something else because you aren't getting your truck anytime soon.

The battery needs to be installed at a Tesla service center, I would suspect it would need to be removed by them too.

Not sold on steer by wire yet. I can see the advantages, but it also means that if you lose electrical power (bad 12V) you lose all steering. Also has huge impacts to steering feel with no connection between the steering wheel and the actual wheels.

Ford needs to go in for the kill now. Offer $2k off for Cybertruck reservation holders (of course the only color they are allowed is “unpainted”). Tesla could have been a serious threat if they had not succumbed to the most classic “Founder’s Syndrome” experience that I have ever seen. (I know that Elon didn’t really found Tesla.)

This stopgap “let’s just stick some batteries on a stock F-150 to get something out the door” might just prove to be Ford’s best move in a long time. I honestly wonder if it was a mistake for all of their competitors to spend billions trying to build the super-electric truck with all the cool things you can do with an EV truck when most of us are pretty happy with the layout and design of the trucks that we have. If I had a Ram Bighorn, I’d want an electric Ram Bighorn and not something that wows the auto journalists.

VW had a great car in the e-Golf because it was just a Golf, which people love (especially in Europe). The ID.4 decided to throw away that model and it kind of bombed because they lost all of the hard-won lessons learned over the decades of building Rabbits and Golf’s.

Yeah I left those off because to me they are debatable.

I don't think the end user cares if it's 800V or 48V LVB. Only if those thing are reflected in things people care about like charge rate and 800V isn't needed for 250kW charge rate. Saving some copper doesn't really add to the user experience.

Steer by wire is not a positive in my opinion, more to break and I don't have a problem with traditional steering (turning the wheel more in a parking lot or whatever).

I dislike the under bed storage for the same reason I dislike it in the Rivian. It just naturally seems to collect dirt and if you are using the bed, you don't really have to access to it, you have to unload stuff. I'd rather have a giant frunk.

But I have no problem with other people considering those things pros. It's subjective.
