good example of what’s possible.
Damage creases removed, factory crease retained. Simply comes down to whether the underlying paint is damaged .

Had a rock dent repair done a GMC Black Denali 3/4 Ton a few years back. It was amazing to watch the process and to see the final results. I think he charged me $75.00. 😊

I have a small dent with damage to the paint. The aluminum under paint is exposed. I have heard that Aluminum rust is the same color as the metal and will protect what is under the layer of rust. In other words it does not eat through. Is that correct? If the cosmetic issue does not bother me, is it safe to leave it as is?

And where is the best place to get a perfect match of small amount of carbonized gray metallic paint?
I read the same about the aluminum oxidation but was worried that the oxidation would push up the neighboring paint and expand as it broke off more paint. The dealership sold me a paint tool for like $40, it is basically an abrasive stone and an oversized nail polish container except it contains factory paint. It matched the factory color well although you can still tell because it doesn't have the multiple layers like the factory did.

Overall, was cheap and easy to do myself. You can only tell from how the light bounces off the paint, and there has been no additional oxidation in a place where we get a lot of rain.

Having much experience with Aircraft Aluminum I would not leave any scratch untreated. It will not rust but aluminum corrodes . Once water gets under the paint it will cause filiform corrosion and spread under the paint.

Thanks for taking the time to share a helpful tip.

I had no idea. So if I am too late an that happens, in case of my hood, will there be any visual cues? would it get bumpy in the impacted areas? or just get weak and fail in form of cracks and holes?

p.s. I love your occupation (which I share).

Contact your insurance company for their recommended shops. Nothing unique about the Lightning hood as compared to the gas F-150 hood.
Yes, but insurance may go up even if the accident doesn't exceed your deductible, which is why some smaller cost repairs, even if not your fault, are best done without insurance involvement.

If your insurance company has a web site where you can get that info anonymously, go for it.
