Did Ford change the motors or throttle response for 2024?

Something I noticed when I switched from my 2023 XLT ER to my 2024 Flash is that the truck isn’t as punchy off the line. The 2024 doesn’t throw you back in your seat as easily if you stomp on it like my 2023 did.

I know I have the big battery because I’ve charged 100+ kWh before…. But is it possible they retuned the motors through software?

It's never been promoted, the technical specs for the HP & TQ are the same, but maybe they softened the map of acceleration from 1% to xx%?? Assuming you tried sport mode as well and see a comparable reduction by the seat of the pants dyno?

I have properly abused my new 2024 Flash yet, the truck only has 550 miles on it and the weather has been crap. I have given it the beans from 30 mph on an onramp, it launched ahead nicely. My 2022 Pro was properly punchy off the line.

I’ve been wondering if Ford stealth changed something via software update that changed the acceleration curve after a Lightning was used by the domestic terrorist in New Orleans.

Wouldn't we know that via an over the air software push? Or could Ford and other manufactures sneak a fast one on us and push the software without us having to download and be notified of it?

I too had a 23 pro SR and now a 24 flash ER. Both get up and go, even with my 1000# load of equipment.

I have the 2024... It has a LFP long range battery.. I believe it has different properties then the NMC, maybe that is the difference, that's the reason why the model Y performance still uses the NMC battery more punchy. Just my thought.

I have a 2023 Lariat ER at home. Traveled to Denver last Sep and rented a 2024 Lightning SR. Not sure of the trim but I suspect Flash or lower. I didn't feel like it had the acceleration I was used to from my 2023 - but I didn't play around e.g. with Sport mode to see if it could be improved.

Is that listed on the window sticker, there is a special VIN code for LFP packs, I need to dig up what it might be. 2024 was supposed to be the year of introduction for LFP, but it was intended for SR trucks not ER.

  • To determine if your F-150 Lightning has an LFP battery, you can check the 8th digit of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). If the 8th digit is a 4 or 5, the battery is LFP.
