The only way to stop a charge by pulling the cable out would be to use the hidden mechanical override. You can’t just grab the handle and pull.
PSA: Don’t use the mechanical release while current is flowing.
If you hit the button on the adapter it stops the charging, that is hardly hidden (its exactly what OP did). That is a physical emergency disconnect similar to flicking the power switch.

Disconnecting the adapter or ccs charger is entirely possible and constitutes the same thing as "pulling the cable out".

Pushing the charge button or hitting stop on the charger sends a command for all components to end the charging session.

I typically like to use the stop charging option on the car instead of the station.

I would stick with using the unlock button next to the vehicle charge port to stop DC charging.

That’s just a long way of saying the same thing I did - you can’t just pull the cable out without doing something else first.

I'm trying to figure out your point here.

Yes, you have to push the very obvious button on the adapter or the handle.

Which doing so is NOT the same as first initiating a stop charging request through software via the button in the charge port or on the screen. Releasing the cable or pushing stop end the charging session in very different ways

There is a mechanical release but that is not what is being discussed here
