Count me in on list of people frustrated by all the problems with software OTA. I have been reading this forum a while and still can not seem to piece together how many different problems exist.

There seems to be 2 buckets but I am not sure if there are more
1. People who never see that an Update exists
2. People who can see the Update but it will not install

I am in situation 1. I bought my ER Lariat on July 31st of 2023. I have never seen the truck update and the Check for Update always comes back with Nothing New. Stuck on Sync 4 version 22326 rev 640. Almost all the solutions offered on the forums have been tried by me. Charge 12V, Reset BMS, Turn everything off when exiting truck. Ford.com currently shows that my 12V is 96%

What is confusing me is everyone complaining about 12V battery preventing their update. Are these posters able to see the Update version on the Update Now screen but it says failed as in 2.? Is 12V battery SOC really holding the people with 1. back from ever seeing an update attempt?

Dealer has obviously been no help. I went in for the BEC update and they supposedly updated it but despite the fact that I mentioned OTA never exists they tell me to just drive for 2 days.

Has anyone updated via FDRS from a situation like mine( 1.), never seeing an update, and after getting up to date start receiving later OTA updates?

I am not happy being required to buy a $500 cable and $50 license to get out of this situation but it is what it is at this point. However, I will really be POed if I have to keep buying the $50 license to stay up to date perpetually.

#1 is not due to 12V battery. Your truck is relatively new still and Ford is not sending it updates. You may already have the updated modules us 22's are getting. Almost all the updates you see will be for folks who have 2022's or early '23's.
Post your VIN on the FDRS lookup thread and someone will tell you what needs updated. It's likely a small list.

You have a misunderstanding of the strategies.

First, checking for an update will always come back with nothing, unless your truck has downloaded an update that is waiting for the scheduled time to apply.

The 12v issue has nothing to do with updates being downloaded. It only has to do with updates being APPLIED.

If you're doing FDRS updates, then you're basically preventing OTA updates, because you did the update via FDRS. I had my truck in for service, and it skipped over a few OTA updates because those modules were also current.

Nobody required you to buy anything. I'd suggest you were premature to do so, but it's your money and it is already spent.

I have spent nothing...yet. I was only asking to find out if using FDRS will get the truck back on the correct schedule of receiving the future updates. I have done no FDRS updates, at least none by me. I assume that is how the dealer supposedly added the BEC CSP. I guess I was incorrect to assume that my Sync version would also get updated when the dealer logged in to FDRS to do the BEC update. There was something I read about OTA clearing after 60 days and then not rescheduling.

If in fact it is a matter of Ford loading the update on their side I find it odd that my version is out of date. It is from February 2023 and there have been Sync updates since such as the June 2023 update.

Has anyone with with similar configuration as mine successfully gotten upgraded from 22326 via OTA? To recap it would be a truck built in May 2023 and purchased during the summer. I have read numerous posts from people in similar situations to mine but have not been able to track down a case of successfully getting upgraded without FDRS intervention.

Sync gets updated when there is an update for Sync. That's like once a year or so. I haven't looked at my version recently, but I believe I've received no Sync updates on my truck since the dealer updated everything in May (April 2022 build, bought in May 2023 and dealer did all the updates as a condition of purchase).

The problem is, Ford's OTA process is not standardized across all vehicles and model years. There is no way of knowing when your car will come up in the OTA lottery. FDRS allows you to skip the wait. Once you fully update and a new OTA comes out, there is no guarantee you will be amongst the first to get it. However, if it is an update worth having and someone with FDRS like myself or Mike verifies you have it available, you can pay another $50 for another 2-day license and get it.

maybe to answer your question

i had software install error- long story - dealer of no help, but did keep for 66ish days, multiple visits.

fdrs updated. Months later I am receiving regular OTA updates, 2 in Past 2 weeks.

not sure why Rick said once a year sync updates. (Rick is usually more on point)Weโ€™ve had several. But none of these updates are life altering, just niceties.

Sync is the system that controls your center display. IT gets updated very infrequently. It is the APIM.

There are lots of modules in the vehicle, updates occur all the time that don't impact the APIM.

To answer one of your questions, yes you will get OTAs after you update with FDRS. I had a failed update this summer and the dealer had to reinstall all the latest software so I ended up getting some of the features without ever getting them OTA. Since then I have been getting regular OTA updates.
