2023 Ford F-150 Lightning
Hi,

I recently purchased a used 2023 Ford Lightning Lariat ER and so far, I am loving the truck!

I have charged it on a few different level 2 chargers, and on a few different level 3 chargers without issue. But for some reason if I use my ford mobile charger with the 120V connection when I go into my truck and start it the wrench light is on and either the powertrain malfunction or service your vehicle soon warning is present. When I turn off the truck and turn it back on the light is gone. I took the vehicle into the dealership; they said my truck was missing some updates and that may have caused the issue but 2 days later the light and warnings were back again.

I tried searching but I can’t find any similar issues. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be? The light on the mobile charger is always blue, the truck still charges on the level 1 without issue and drives fine.

That’s strange. It would have to be a problem with your onboard charger. But even then, if there are any issues with the J1772 protocol the charging should stop. How’s your receptacle voltage?

I'll need to check it. It's a GFCI outlet that is direct to the panel. it's on a 15amp breaker.

Are you starting the truck while it’s charging when this happens? If so, why?

It's happened after I have disconnected the charger and get into the truck and start it. But I have also started the truck or turned on the accessories while it's charging, is there an issue to do that? Starting the truck was a mistake and turning the accessories on was to check some settings on the truck.

There’s no harm in starting the truck while it’s charging. I would ask the dealer what the code was that it threw. So, far from my experience the dealer will give any lame excuse to make it sound like they know what they’re talking about or so that they don’t have to fix it.

No issue. I have never started while charging on L1 and was just curious if that could be a factor.

I read somewhere that the 120v should be on a 30amp circuit. I unsuccessfully tried mine on a 15amp circuit when I first got my truck and only used 30amp outlets since.
