I just purchased a new 2023 Lightning XLT and took my first road trip. While traveling in Chattanooga, the navigation worked flawlessly.

However, when I left to return home, the navigation showed that the trip would take more than 3.5 hours (should be 1.5-2). For some reason it was routing me more than 50 miles past my home so that I could charge - and then return home.

I live in a rural area with no fast charging. But I had plenty of charge to make it home. In fact, I arrived with 27%.

No matter where I routed too, it kept sending me first to a fast charger miles away, instead of just sending me home.

Any ideas why this was happening?

Thank you for your help.

Because it sometimes does illogical things. Or, you had it set with a high soc you wanted to arrive home with.

Use ABRP (A Better Route Planner) also. And GoogleMaps to say "is this right"?

What setting needs to be changed for the high soc to arrive home with?

Do you have your home set as 'HOME' for your regular charging? Otherwise, it might assume you don't have charging where you are arriving...

The NAV system is not useful for me, for this very reason, and others... it just does not seem intuitive for most folks, and often times also 'derates' your range, for little apparent reason...
I just know that my mi/kwh average x battery percentage is a much closer 'guesstimation' to range... but, you have to constantly do this 'mental calculations' periodically.

That doesn’t matter. The nav isn’t integrated to your saved charging locations.
What may help is to reduce the setting for low battery warning. I haven’t tried this, but it might be worth a shot. I normally don’t use the nav when going home because I know where I live.

It's kinda terrible because arguably one of the most important functions of the nav is to see if you can make it home in the last leg of your trip, and it absolutely utterly fails at it. It also does this if you are heading to a hotel that has charging that isn't in the ford nav.

That's funny because my wife always asks me why I use the navigation when traveling home. Don't you know where you live? I just like to keep track of the miles as I travel. But you are correct!

I've had enough traffic/construction/closure surprises in my life that I always navigate everywhere that is longer than a 10 min trip.

Like you I do it just for the data, though not around town trips, but anything over 50 miles or when I know my SOC is getting low.

BTW, I reduced my setting for low battery warning to the minimum, that has helped minimize the warnings and special offers to route me to a charging station that's further than my home destination.
