I got a first year Prius (aka, Turtle Car) when they first came out. Totoya could not give them away for a few years. People said that the battery was unsafe. I did not care. I do not even care enough to say "I told you so."

I care about family opinion only a little. Everyone else is a "I can't hear you."

When you feel the need to justify, remember, you are letting some unknown person control you.

I think it squarely comes down to high prices and high rates. I'm in my late 20s and plenty of friends of mine are not interested in new vehicles at all, it's like homes, if you could get a good rate, then it's just not the climate to buy. Despite being one of the proud '23 sucker's who spent an arm and a leg, I was able to get a sub 4% loan so now I plan on driving the Lightning well past being paid off, because it doesn't make sense to take on high interest debt when the truck works wonderfully.

I had originally eye' d transitioning to the next family of Truck EVs (hopefully Ranger) but like I said, high rates and abysmal trade in on my current truck will have me sticking with it for some time, which I don't mind, I do love driving it.

The only way Ford attracts new people is going to be lower prices which will be difficult. Teslas are only as cheap as they are because they insanely minimalistic/cheap and convinced buyers that's actually a luxury. I've spent a decent amount of time in MY Performances and there's a noticeable drop-off in true luxury features compared to the Lariat.
Keep it for 20 years! I still have my 2000 Ford Focus ZX3. Get seat covers from Katskin if you lust for leather in 4 years.

We have 2 Prius and the new truck will replace one of them. I bought one in early 2009 after Wall Street and Too Big to Fail banks threw the economy into the toilet (for us folks anyway) and gas prices dropped. Same thing, ran fine and didn't care about the naysayers!

Ford started out with the correct concept then went for big profit margin instead. Limiting their target to the PRO model aimed at the commercial and industrial markets would have avoided the political axe grinders.
Most commercial and industrial half ton truck users have limited mileage requirements and are concerned about fixed and variable costs. Recognize that variable costs are maintenance and fuel. Plugging in every night removes the need to have someone waste time gassing up every other day. No oil changes. It adds up.
People like me who love trying out the latest vehicle and are not financially constrained from buying an overprice truck apparently trigger those who are and are easily led by political talking heads. There are many other examples.
Detroit will figure it out eventually. In the meantime, China is moving hard into the EU EV market. Care to buy an American made microwave?

Another thing I’ve been thinking about is how the Reservation systems screws everyone.

With only a $100 Reservation deposit many put in Reservations, some with intentions on actually purchasing one, some for the clicks and some to make profit.

These reservations IMO put out a Fake Demand causing dealers to believe this is a HOT vehicle and adjust their pricing as such. The results is many of those who intended to purchase being pushed out of the market.

Reservations only work if it comes straight from the factory with no middle man. Other than that just put the model out and see where it goes.

I understand why Ford put the F-150 out, but I think the Ranger at a max price of $50k with ER would have been a hot seller.

You may be right but I would never consider buying a Ranger or a Maverick, electric or not.

Where I’m at, gas is $4.50-5 and electricity is 8c a kWh. For simple math let’s say my Pro gets 2 m/kWh and a gas truck gets 20 mpg (I feel there both skew heavily in favor of the gas truck).
I’ve been averaging 1,700 miles a month in my Pro over the last 10 months. It costs me $68 in electricity vs what would be $382.50 at $4.50 a gallon. That’s over $3,500 savings a year (after taking into account the extra $225 in registration for EVs in WA).
Of course this varies by region, but doesn’t take too many years at $3,500 to close the gap between EV and ICE.
This has been my calculations. Everett area for me. Wanting a truck driving experience; y we t love the electric performance. Not towing. Likely hauling various things from dog and future family to materials for building and lawn. And maybe occasionally haul a tent trailer. Otherwise the gas price vs electricity just seems to draw the line for me.
Especially with some solar in the mix.

Other than pure acceleration, I still don’t get the value of an EV over an ICE truck? Acceleration and torque is insane and addictive but not spending $60k for it. At $40k-$7.5k, I was willing to write a check but if I want a daily driver that checks all the boxes, hard to argue buying an EV vs a Powerboost.

pls educate me if I am missing something
I can tell you I’ve saved around $2k+ over the last year alone. This includes rebates that I got during winter from my electricity provider. In comparison I had platinum powerboost as loaner for 2 weeks Recently and I burned $100 in gas.

$3.5 cents in central Washington so not $68 but $25 here + solar so drive for free.

First, hello! This is my first post here (MachE formum veteran) and I just got my Lightning this weekend to everyone's surprise in my family, especially me. I was interested in the sweet deals they were offering as I really was looking at a truck (and willing to go EV) and my wife was fed up with her MDX and gas cost/hasle after us having a MachE for two years which she really liked (she would borrwo it whenever she could). Someone walked away from an Avalanche gray Lariat they ordered Saturday while I was out test driving the lightning...which was the only color I liked of anything in stock, so pulled the trigger and am a two-EV house hold (confess I have a 3rd old ICE car in the garage too). My wife is stoked to have the MachE full time now. I am stoked to be an owner of an amazing truck and have something to talk about on this forum.

Anyway, wanted to jump in now that I am over 2 years plus non-Tesla EV driver. All previous points are valid and this is a slight repeat: The biggest challenge EV's have IMO is the weak ass public charging infrastructure we have which forces folks to have to think/plan/stuggle which is often a deal breaker. It is coming around slowly and the deal to get us access to the Tesla network is a HUGE win. But none of the OEM's realizesd (as Tesla did) the fueling experience is mega-tied to vehicle ownership experience whereby ICE fueling is not ever considered by the car makers. Now that everyone is getting that, we should be in good shape...but until you can find public fast charging whenever you need it without waiting in line, finding the only charger you can use is down or having to unhitch your trailer to charge, then we will see a bigger uptick.

When I watch the video's from Kyle at Out of Spec Studios of the charging locaitons Europe that are coming on line, it lets us see the future we may have here in the next 3-5 years.

The biggest hook is the driving experince of an EV (it is freaking fun every time I drive my MachE or Lightning...I swear I smile every first time I press the accerator on a drive) and if the charging experience can stop being a deterrent plus costs come down (financing rates and prices), the momentum will resume.
