Anyone else share in this? Anyone want to replicate this to see if it happens to you too (or if there's something wrong with my e-pickup-up-truck)?

Scenario 1:

Pull up to the beach. Pop the frunk. Grab a frosty beverage. Go and enjoy the beach. Return a few times over the course of an hour or 2 to replenish said beverage. At the end of the outing, put everything away and go to push the button on the frunk to close it. Nothing. Open the door and push the button to close it. Nothing. Start the truck, push either button. Nothing. Lock the truck. Unlock the truck. Push any button, nothing. Manually shove trunk shut, and it power latches. Push any button... opens and closes like it should.

Scenario 2:

Come home from grocery trip. Open the frunk, grab like 17 bags on your arm cause fuck doing this in 2 trips. Go inside, put stuff away. Grab a beer, catch up on the game you missed. Few hours later.... remember you didnt close your frunk. Go outside and push the button....Nothing. Open the door and push the button to close it. Nothing. Start the truck, push either button. Nothing. Lock the truck. Unlock the truck. Push any button, nothing. Manually shove trunk shut, and it power latches. Push any button... opens and closes like it should.

What the ****?

This has happened more than once. And its dumb.

Next time this happens instead of closing the frunk manually try pushing it all the way open before pressing the button. Another thing to try is locking or unlocking your doors to reestablish that you are actively doing something with the truck.

It's entirely possible it's timing out to save the LVB charge. Kind of like if you leave a door open the dome light will eventually go out...hey, now that I think of it there are lights in the frunk...I bet you a dollar the button stops working when the lights go out. I bet you another dollar if you can get the lights to work the button will work.

The above is pure stream of consciousness free association.🤣

If the truck goes into deep sleep it seems to lose the frunk position. Same thing happens if you disconnect the 12V. There’s also the annoying way that the frunk button doesn’t work if the doors are locked and the remote start turning off if you open the frunk. @Ford Motor Company needs to do a major rewrite on the code that manages the frunk.

I've noticed that unlike my Mach-E, where the frunk button seems to always be active, the Lightning button only works when you unlock the door, then as you noticed, it goes to sleep if you wait too long to close it.

So, whenever it's asleep, I use the key fob which always works, or I walk over to the driver's door touch the handle triggering the unlock and wakeup, then the button works again.

The App works too.

Yess agree with OP on frunk issues on my 23 Platunum. This is a real known issue that happens on our Lightning’s. Annoying bug on mine to say the least. I also get malfunction messages on both frunk and power tailgate more than I care for. On the frunk II do the sane as you. It also when closed sometimes throws a dashboard message and it requires the pull cord be used to release the first latch, then I press down on the hood so it power re-latches itself then it returns to working as intended. These unresolved bugs are real and thus far my only resolution to date has been to work around them until a fix is found.

Actually, it shuts down the Frunk module maybe an hour after the truck is shut down long before the truck goes into deep sleep. The Frunk control module loses its position and goes into error mode. If manually closing the Frunk resets this, it is an improvement from a few months ago (red light on dash, and service message). Next time I'll try opening it fully and see if that resets its brains.
If you do end up with the error message (like I have a few times), manually open the Frunk fully, press and hold the Frunk button for a few seconds until it beeps. Close the Frunk manually (gently) until the latch takes it closed and this will reset the error condition provided there are no physical problems with the mechanism.

I recall this being brought up about a year ago I think. A shame it's still a problem. Doesn't seem like it should be that hard to store off the position before going to sleep.

Hi there. These frunk timeout concerns doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your Lightning truck. Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? To send a private message, just click on our username and select "Start Conversation". I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.

Just a hunch after seeing the video, but did it take some special wiring for the auto bed cover? Maybe that threw the frunk off somehow?
No bed cover. Trucks bone stock.

This is my experience in general. Time passed does not seem to matter. My open/close button on the frunk, app and inside seem to be more of a suggestion at all times. Have not been locked out as of yet, but unresponsive to say the least. Good news is the LOUD beeps always work when opening and closing, so everyone inside and out are aware it is in action.

I've had similar issues, and pushing the button inside the truck next to the steering wheel usually reactivates the outside Frunk button.

The Frunk gremlins are often unpredictable, and one of my favorite is when I go press the outside button to open the Frunk, the go to put something inside the cab (like a water bottle) while I wait for it to open, but the Frunk will freeze mid lift when I unlock / open the driver door. Looks really awesome in a grocery store parking lot, because it's still new enough to be novel and catch the public's attention, and then they're staring at it when it "breaks down" mid open.
