I hear there are lizards at those truck stops that entertain people during their visits. I wonder if they'll congregate around the EV chargers to help guys on their journeys.

Which gas stations chains are not franchises? If there is one, that might seem like a good partner site as well.

I don't like the exclusive reservation or discount if GM is taking government money to put in the chargers.

"GM EV owners can take advantage of benefits, including the ability to make exclusive reservations, get discounts on charging costs and streamline the charging process with Plug and Charge and in-vehicle apps that can provide real-time charger availability."

I drive from NY down i81..Scranton to Harrisburg the back way to Frederick MD. Huge hole thru PA and surprisingly few charging options in Harrisburg. Hope this helps.

Also, there are tons of Flying J/Pilot along i95 which I can see getting filled up quick as EV adoption takes off...
Heading to Hershey in September. Looks like EA in Carlisle.

Is that the lizard that wants to help you save hundreds on car insurance?

I imagine the discounts are going to be like EA where you can buy a membership. Knowing the federal government and contracts/grants, I don't *think* those discounts would be exclusive to GM(i.e anyone could join the club and get a discount). I do think they *might* be able to do the reservation thing, so maybe they have one stall for reservations and others open?

I thought I read the article carefully. I don't remember anything about federal money, although it's easy for me to assume.

As above, if the club is open or has a 'club sponsor'– GM for this one, VW/Audi/Ford for EA, Tesla for Tesla – then I would hope that the costs of the perks are reimbursed to the consortium so that real pricing and costs are accurately applied to the DCFC model.

In another article they alluded to this being part of the infrastructure plan, although I don't think it was mentioned here. Its a guess right now as to how this all gets organized, although I'm not to worried about the "reservations". I don't think EvGo can afford to "hold" a charger open for a no-show reservation if someone is waiting. That and it would be difficult to make any "reservations" in advance, since arrival time is in flux(traffic, driving speed, other stops, etc).

I think it would be little more than if you were waiting a GM owner could get priority over a non GM. The goal would be to have enough chargers where that doesn't happen.

Also from CNBC article, the potential for EV stalls for trailers--

"The chargers will be installed, operated and maintained by EVgo and will include high-power fast chargers capable of charging at up to 350 kilowatts as well as charging stalls designed to accommodate electric vehicles that are towing trailers."

How difficult would it be to show state lines on this map? It’s really hard to tell where many of these will be located.

Does not help address any of the gaps in my state (Missouri), just adds competition to existing areas with chargers. Still an improvement, but doesn't resolve the spots that remain iffy, at least for us.

Agreed, Northern Maine is still a desert as well.

Also a big hole in WV--I know there are more Pilot stops there so hopefully those will be added in phase 2...
WV cuts off their nose, toes, and elbows due to an irrational need to spite their face. Manchin could have asked for whatever pork he wants (green energy manufacturing, vehicle manufacturing, job training centers, literal bacon, etc.) to pass legislation. Has his party over a barrel and could make WV the hub for change and refuses to. I don't think for a second it's out of any principle either.

Oh no..we know what drives Manchin and its campaign dollars. The interesting twist is the coal lobby actually wants the BBB (or other pro EV legislation) because it drives up demand for electricity which is generated by....Coal! But they have to compete with Manchins ties to the fossil fuel lobby. Also Toyota is big contributor (and has a huge factory in WV) and they desperately want the new EV credit or they will lose market share to Hyundai/Kia(who still get the credit..Toyota ran out of credits).

It will be who can give Manchin the most $$ under the table I'm sure.
