Heated steering wheel weak?

I think mine was set to A and I changed it to F. It gets pretty toasty when it's running

Thank you! One question: the issue I am observing is the wheel gets warm when preconditioning the cabin, but after you start driving it cools down. I wonder if this setting determines the cooler temperature or just the initial higher temperature during preconditioning.

This is a known programming bug in all Lightnings, to be fixed in the future.

In the meantime use a departure time that is greater than 30 minutes prior to actual leave time, which allows the truck to return to sleep, clearing the glitch and upon starting & remote starting the heated wheel will work normally.

Interesting. For clarification, the wheel, when operating correctly, should heat to it's set temperature and stay there until you turn it off and not cool down? And this is fixed by using departure time preconditioning of the cabin? I don't have a set time I leave the house, so the truck sits for hours anyway and shoibe in sleep mode. Has this bug been acknowledged by Ford? Do you think they will attempt to fix it via OTA update or dealer visit?

The bug is known & acknowledge by @Ford Motor Company, folks in the know who monitor the forum say that an OTA programming fix is coming at some point.

My wheel heats up to pretty warm conditions and stays like so until I manually shut it off, I find it a bit too warm in fall/spring usage, deep winter it is just right and I sometimes leave it on for the whole drive.

Given that you say your truck has slept well past my recommendations, you might want to get it checked out, there may be a hardware issue or a forscan programming adjustment needed.

got my HSW installed last week, but it's gonna be a while before I test it. 87 here today!

checked it today (down to 70 degrees) and it seemed to work fine. seemed plenty warm and would have felt great if it was below zero.

Just came back ~350 miles from Lake Chelan in low 40’s, mid 30’s temps. Heated steering wheel was toasty warm, that and seats on one bar and heat at 65 F made for a very efficient trip. April ‘23 build ER Lariat.

So the wheel stayed the same warmness the entire time and never cooled off at all?

Yes, correct. I may be mistaken on this observation.. but the top 1/2 seemed slightly less warm than the bottom 1/2.

Next time (maybe tomorrow morning ) I‘ll see if increasing cabin heat to say 72 F lowers steering wheel heat.

25f this morning in WI, my truck sits outside, and I don't use departure at all. I just turn it on remotely 10 minutes before I leave for work in the morning. My steering wheel heats up really well and stays warm until I shut it off. Not seeing the issue others mention, XLT ER, official built date 10/1/23.

I think it's just Ford steering wheel's in general. I had a 2017 F250 King Ranch and never felt it heated enough coming from a Ram product. Now swapped it for the GM Sierra, and the GM steering wheel heating is great. Got back in to test drive a new Lightning and it felt weak compared to my GM wheel.

Today's remote start request failed to process, I didn't notice while I was getting ready to go and went out to a cold truck, I'm marking this event to yet another failed communications session between Fordpass, the cloud and the truck ...... come on Ford, fire up the hamsters.

Another off the cuff observation about the warmth of the heated steering wheel, I find the upper half with hands on the 11 & 1 o'clock positions warmer than the 10 & 2 o'clock positions.

I had my heated steering wheel retrofitted in December and I haven't had any of the same issues as folks here. Interesting. My HSW gets nice and warm whenever I select the button. There's definitely areas that get hotter. So far I can complain, granted, the coldest I've seen so far this winter was maybe 35F.
