I pulled the trigger and bought the 48a Emporia from Amazon.com at $399, I think it's the best price I've seen for a reasonably featured 48a adjustable charger with instant energy monitoring.

Lectron sent me some coupons for 40% off but it was for all their lower tier models they seem to be replacing.

I already have my Tesla+adapter setup, but I’d be interested to hear how you like this after you use it a while.

That's a great price. You're going to love it. It provides a lot of data and is very reliable.

It locks very nice. It looks like it does not have physical switches to set the max amp (using WiFI through the app). I couldn’t figure out if you lose power in middle of a night while charging and it comes back, what happens. Does it go to a higher default amp rate or remembers the settings somehow.. I probably will set mine up at 24 amp and I understand you can’t set the limit in Pro and it will always try to pull 32 Amp.

You set it up in the app. It will remember your max charge rate if you cycle power to it. Mine has a max of 40A because I moved it back to the 14-50 outlet after I installed my FCSP.

I’ve been doing research on this as well as I wait for my Pro SR to be built and so far it seems like the Mustart 40amp portable charger on Amazon is the best value and most likely what I’ll go with when the time comes.
Does not seem to be UL certified, and is supposed to be used only on GFCI circuits. And does not have anyway to limit the current. It may work for specific conditions but, I may have to pay more for my needs.

I was looking at Grizzle-e because I have to have mine outside but this looks like it is outdoor friendly with more features. If it has a good memory, it is hard to beat with the features it has.

I can't attest to the outdoor worthiness of it, since I have it installed in a garage. But they do say it is outdoor rated.

Here it is on their website. Use the code 5%offmycart and you'll save ~$20 on it. They ship fast.

No downsides. Tesla make fine equipment. Just costs more. I'm also not sure if they offer the same features of derating and energy monitoring in their app. Somebody with one would have to comment.

EDIT: I also just noticed that the Tesla unit is hardwire only. The Emporia ships with a 14-50 plug installed, but can also be hardwired.

Going to echo check what your utility's EV programs are. Mine (Xcel Energy) has a charging program with discounted rates for off-peak charging. The catch is you have to use one of their two charger options, which you can either rent or buy outright. Waiting on my charger install to relegate the mobile charger to being a backup unit.

Thank you, I have checked with my utility. All the rebates are for hardwired units...$500 rebate. I'd rather not pay for labor and installation since I already have a 14-50 outlet right outside of my garage (I had it installed last year when I had to upgrade my archaic Electrical Panel).

I will say, that is great advice for most people!
I understand your thoughts, but don’t forget about the new reinstatement of the EVSE purchase/install Fed tax credit…it might adjust your cost/benefit analysis 🤔. That, and the benefit of higher amperage charging/not having to intermittently plug/unplug your portable EVSE at home as noted…….

Thanks for the discount code!

I cancelled my Amazon order and bought the energy monitoring bundle direct from Emporia. That includes the 48a EVSE and the 16 sensor home monitoring package.

$488 after discounts.

I had not opened the Emporia I received from Amazon last week and will be returning it now that it is $100 cheaper! Thanks @BennyTheBeaver for the code to save another $20

Edit: credit actually goes to @Pioneer74 for the 5% discount

I thought about removing the Ford charger from my order but didn't want to risk anything with my delivery being so close. I had rather hoped Ford would credit that as port of the price protection. Of course they didn't. Anyway I got a great deal on the truck so I am not sad to have overpaid for a mobile charger.

You can't beat the price with the 5% off. Especially the energy monitor bundle. I paid full price for mine and it's worth every penny.

Keep the mobile charger under your back seat in case of emergency. You never know when you'll need it.
