I was gonna say Garmin is French but Bezo is correct:That's why I like the Garmin, it writes to a card and I don't use any cloud features on it. Plus they're an American company. Completely agree about not having to worry depending on line of work, and I wouldn't tell anyone they shouldn't get a convenient product, only offer an American made alternative that I trust is more secure. I have a number of Garmin products and they've been good to me.
“In 1983, Gary Burrell recruited Min H. Kao from the defense contractor Magnavox while working for the former King Radio. They founded Garmin in 1989 in Lenexa, Kansas, as "ProNav". ProNav's first product was a GPS unit which sold for US$2,500. The company was later renamed "Garmin", a portmanteau of its two founders, Gary Burrell and Min H. Kao. In 1991, the U.S. Army became their first customer.”
