If I want to use the truck's outlets for multiple hours do I need the keys inside the truck to do so?

I know I need to turn off the auto shutoff timer at a minimum. I have a '23 MY.

No you do not need the keys in it.

Shutdown timer and propower reserve setting will shut it down so adjust accordingly.

I have a 2024 Flash. I use ProPower at campsites with my travel trailer. One big attraction for me to buy this truck in the first place was the prospect of being able to use the huge battery that is in the truck to run A/C, microwave, and electric heat at remote campsites.

I turn it on and it will work for a few hours, then it shuts itself off, 99% of the time.

It stayed on all night once, but that time, I made coffee the next morning using the microwave, then the Pro Power shut itself off a short time later. I've called Ford a few times and I've never been able to talk with anyone who had the slightest idea as to how ProPower is supposed to work. I've never been able to talk with anyone at Ford who had much of an idea as to what an electric vehicle is.

As soon as I activate ProPower the vehicle announces that the shut down timer has been automatically turned off. I then look for the slider that turns off the shut down timer - I then always have to manually set it to turn off the shut down timer. I then turn the vehicle off and hope the power lasts long enough to cook dinner and run things in the trailer until we go to sleep. It always seems to last that long.

I've heard that several users of this forum claim to have solved this problem by plugging in a small steady electric load. I have a tiny steady electric load which is an electric absorption fridge in the trailer. That doesn't solve the problem. I haven't thought of a small steady load to use so I'm living with the problem at the moment, assuming there is no possibility of Ford solving this.

In Ford's defense, I'm used to running software that has had decades of development financed by millions of users, such as various popular desktop operating systems and application software. But still, it seems Ford could take software much more seriously than they do.

Eg: Yesterday I was driving towards Tucson on Hwy 8 where chargers are not plentiful, towing my trailer which means my absolute maximum range at 55 mph isn't much more than 150 miles. I calculated that given my state of charge and the distance to the next charger, I could easily make it. Suddenly, more than half way to the next charger, the truck displays a warning notice that we can't make it. (I had not entered the destination into the Ford navigation software as I don't use it. I suppose Ford assumes it knows where all fast chargers are.) I dismiss this warning, as I know that Ford's software cannot figure this out correctly based on my past experience. But my wife becomes worried and I have to patiently explain my calculations while I drive. She doesn't really understand what I'm saying, except she knows Ford has warned us we face impending disaster, and I'm proceeding right into it saying everything will be fine.

We make it to the next charger with 11% battery left.

I've never tried using ProPower and leaving keys in the truck. I might experiment....

The 2025's allow you to have Pro Power/Outlets on with the vehicle powered off. Hopefully, eventually, that will reach the 22-24 owners via OTA.

This would be nice.
Of course in really not a huge deal IMO to have the vehicle running as it's really not running too much extra stuff while running.

As for OP and the question. I have a 24, I often times do exactly what you're saying. Start the vehicle, enable the power in the bed, then set the key outside the vehicle. I think you can even lock the doors and the power will still be supplied. I will often leave the truck running while going into someplace and lock the doors. I guess I haven't tried having power being supplied to the frunk or bed, but it makes sense it would still work.

I’d love to see it but reality is: don’t hold your breath based on Ford’s historical update history! Plus they’ll probably pull an Apple and claim you need newer hardware (even though you don’t!).
