I went from a 2023 Lariat ER with Max Tow, power running boards etc to a 2024 Platinum with power running boards.

After 2 months of ownership here is my honest opinion of the “upgrade”

Lariat Pros:
Ride on my 23 Lariat was “smoother” and “softer” than the Platinum. Some of it is because of tires and some because of spring rate differences. I actually preferred the way the Lariat rode over the Platinum.

Actual Range on the Lariat was about 10% more than the Platinum. (EPA Published 330 vs 300 miles.)

Platinum Pros:
The only measurable advantage that the Platinum had over the Lariat was the Massaging Seats.

Blue Cruise 1.4, and Walk away Door Lock, Pro Power with truck turned off are other features that are on my 2024 Platinum that weren’t on my 2023 Lariat. Ford has stated these are supposed to be eventually upgraded via an OTA upgrade on previous year Lightnings. What can’t be upgraded is Heat Pump, but living here in Florida that’s not an issue.

Bottom line
So, was it worth it to replace my Lariat ER with a Platinum and would I do it again with what I now know? Probably not.
You forget the biggest thing, leather seats. I’m getting ready spend $2000 on upgraded leather to replace the plastic junk.

I thought that the seats in the Lariat were also real leather?

heck no. plastic on the 2023
I believe on the lightning Lariat the seating surfaces are leather, but sides are vinyl for more durability. Typical of many car manufacturer seats.

The rear seats may be all vinyl, which is typical

This spring I got both BlueCruise 1.4 and walk-away locks on my '23 ER Lariat (coincidentally, also with Max Tow and aftermarket retractable running boards). The BlueCruise was an over-the-air update that arrived in late March. I got walk-away locks when the dealership updated my truck's BCM to the latest version while they were trying to diagnose an airbag warning message.

I'm still waiting on Pro Power with the truck otherwise "off".

I also agree with you -- I wouldn't "upgrade" to a Platinum. The extra weight and larger wheels reduces range and negatively affects the ride quality. I'm probably going to keep my '23 until the wheels fall off (or until Ford offers a full-size BEV pickup with an 800V architecture, Level 3+ ADAS, and 450+ mile range, whichever comes first).

BCM
This can only be done by a dealer or by a mechanic that has the proper security clearances!

Yes, I have FDRS as well as forscan, but you need the NASTF certification or a Ford dealer!
So I have FDRS, & NASTF. But do I need VSP?

Yes!
VSP is required to do the BCM update. I had to look it up to see what it was, but that is really what you need NASTF is just how you get it.

I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I have a friend that is a mechanic and that is what we used to update mine he works on exotics and other high-end cars so he has about every certification you can think of.
The BCM is what is the security features of the vehicle and that is why you need it from my understanding.
