Let's not talk about the promises of the future.

I'm trying to understand the options available now locally for a road trip and in a bind. (I have a SR Lariat)

Are the "Tesla to J1772 charging adapters" $80-$160 Only:
  1. if you were visiting a friends house that has a Tesla wall Charger
  2. (AND)
  3. would NOT work at a Tesla commercial charging spot (Like Wawa)
Are the "Tesla to J1772 (TeslaTap Mini) " $300-$400 needed for:
  1. A Tesla commercial charging spot (Like Wawa)?
  2. I assume a 60amp (would give me ~30Miles/Per hour charge) 80amp ~40m/hr
  3. What is required to use a Tesla Charge location at this time?
    1. Tesla app account?
    2. Would this work at all Tesla charging locations?
Always appreciate the help. Thanks

Skip all this an start planning trips with ABRP, aka A Better Route Planner. I cross check station reviews on Plug Share, have EA, ChargePoint and EVgo apps too. All on my phone and tablet, I have our FL trip Route planned with options every 80 to 100 miles right now just to have possible bailout areas.

The A2Z Tesla -> J1772 adapter can be used. I bought one to replace the terrible, unsafe Hansshow adapter a family member was using. It seems fine.

Like everyone else I am waiting eagerly to learn whether I'll have to buy the A2Z Tesla -> CCS adapter or whether Ford will be buying me one...

I bought a Lectron J1772 to Tesla adapter and keep it in my center console. It is convenient, but it will be a LONG time before it pays for itself.

> It will NOT work with Tesla Superchargers (DC fast charge aka L3 charging.)
> All of the Tesla charge options that I've seen at The Wa are Superchargers - so no, the adapter will not help you when you visit the greatest convenience store on planet earth.
> It works GREAT on Tesla Destination (AC, L2 charging.) Example - Wind Creek casino in Bethlehem has a couple of free-to-use Destination chargers. The adapter allows me to charge up when I visit the casino.
> I haven't tried it, but it would likely work if you visited a Tesla-owning friend's house and wanted to charge up there.
> It would also LIKELY work if you were in a real jam and needed to borrow a Tesla L1 EVSE(but then, you carry your own J1772 L1 EVSE.)

For me, it is worth it for charging at the casino, and the 'what if/just in case' capability is a bonus.

I was looking at these the other day, and was worried about not knowing what brand could really be trusted.

Just looked up magic dock installed sites, and my state has 3. All in weird (but logical) locations.
So, this is a good solution until the network (any network) gets better outside of large cities.

Thanks for sharing this.
