Hi, I am new here and this is my first post.

I am planning to order the lightning, as soon as they open the next order bank. I want to get the best value with the least possible cost. I would go of course for the PRO if I would get the full 7500 tax credit but this is my main question. Lets say I order the pro and get it delivered in December, would I qualify for the tax credit? How about when I order the XLT? How about if either one would be delivered in January 2023?

My other question independent from the tax credit (which probably deserves its own thread), is the XLT worth the extra cost?

Thank you in advance for your answers!

Regarding the tax credit, it all depends on when Ford hits the 200,000 EV threshold. It will be close either in June 2022 or July 2022. If it is June, that is one quarter less for the full and prorated tax credits to be allowed.

It doesn’t matter if it is a Pro or an XLT.
If the Pro is available then get it. But if not get the XLT. The XLT options are probably not worth the price difference but that all depends on personal preference.

Thank you! Does it matter if I get the truck in December or January?

From my understanding, the tax credit is adjusted quarterly, so June being the end of the 1Q, if the truck is purchased in July and the 200k threshold hasnt been met, you should get the full credit. Even if the threshold is met in july, they wouldnt adjust the credit until the start of 3Q.

If Ford reaches 200,000 in July, then you can get the full $7,500 credit for trucks delivered and put "in service" by end of December. $3,750 for Jan-Jun 2023, and $1,875 for Jul-Dec 2023.

If 200,000 in June, then that all shifts forward by 3 months ($7,500 until Sep 2022, $3,750 Oct-Mar 2023, and $1,875 Apr-Sep 2023).

So yes, if they reach 200,000 in July, it will make a difference in Dec ($7,500) vs Jan ($3,750). If they reach 200k in June, it's the same ($3,750) Dec vs Jan.

Thank you, very clear. In some other forum someone was writing that it would depend on the model(Pro vs XLT) and how many of each is made. I guess that was nonsense. Thanks again for the clarification.

There could be a difference in delivery dates if Ford is blending Pro vs higher trims to manage financials... that could mean a Pro order sits longer than a higher trim. But that's all going to be speculation until patterns are seen.

It depends on what the prices will be on MY23

No, do I still need a reservation to order one? I thought the reservation was just for the first wave. Again, pardon my nativity, I am brand new so there will be lots of amateur assumptions and questions.

Yes, if you don't have a reservation, there's no chance you will get a truck in 2022, probably not in 2023, as Ford had over 200,00 preorder reservations and will only make 150,000 next year if they do everything right. There's no chance you will see a tax credit, as they will all be used by the end of next year under any scenario..

I see, thanks. It sounds almost as bad as with the Bronco. I reserved mine 2 years ago and getting it now in the next few days. I will still put in my order and see what happens, don't have anything to loose.
