Is anyone else having issues with the mobile power cord constantly erroring out? I will charge for a few minutes and then the amber light comes on and the truck stops charging. Unplugging the cord from the wall and plugging back in typically fixes it but sometimes fault out again. I"ve used this same outlet for 7.5 years with our Tesla and no issues. Page 203 if the manual says amber indicates the unit is rebooting but it will sit there like that all night. Page 205 says than an 'on' amber light says its a fault that requires troubleshooting and to ensure everything is properly connected (which it is). I've had more issue as the weather has gotten colder so I don't think it's too warm. I tried calling Ford with the information in the manual and they told me to take it to my dealer. My dealer said that an OTA update on 11/17 should have fixed it but that is not true.

Any ideas?

I've been waiting 8 months to get my service upgraded to use the pro charging unit but there is still no word from the electric company so I'm stuck using this cord until that time.

Try using the 120v adapter to see if the error goes away, then retest with the 14-50 plug.

I had one failure in 14 days of use. I did reattach the 14-50 in case that was the problem. No issues since.

I’m having the same problem with the mobile power cord. Last week we were at a vacation rental and 120v kept faulting out. I tested back home in the garage and it worked, so I blamed it on the circuit. Last night I plugged into 240v at a RV park and it faulted out several times. This time I had my Mustart evse with me an it worked fine, charged all night at 17 degrees So I know the circuit is ok in this case. I‘m starting to think that it is a cold weather issue since in both cases it was below freezing. I will do more testing inside and out when I get home

What level of amperage were you using to charge your Tesla? What type of plug (& wall receptacle) is attached to the green 14-50's cable?

We charge our Tesla at 40 amps (50 amp circuit breaker). We have a NEMA 14-50 outlet. The green end is a 50Amp extension cord with NEAM 14-50 connectors I bought to go from the outlet to the side of the garage the truck is on so I could use the mobile connector to charge until my electric service gets upgraded and the pro charger gets connected.

I’ve got the same thing going on that has intensified the last several weeks since it’s been below 30F.

At first it would fault right after my scheduled charging time was to begin, would have to go out and unplug/replug charger or flip breaker off and on.

I called Ford and they told me to try taking off scheduled charging. This has been slightly more reliable but still have had a couple time flipping to amber fault.

have not got around to trying my Tesla charger with adapter, that is the next trial. But definitely something funky going on with FMC, I don’t plan to use this charger if it doesn’t let me schedule

As a side gripe I’m totally dumbfounded why Ford decided to use gps location to coordinate anything with charging levels. And also the fact that when you switch between scheduled charging and charge when plugged in that it resets the desired level to 100%, that’s been a pain as I have not yet seen it charge to less than 100% when not using the schedule (maybe tonight it’ll work?)

That’s exactly how “Charge when plugged in” is supposed to work. No settings are used at all.

I can confirm that my mobile charger does not like cold weather. I have tested it on both 120v and 240v circuits at 17F to 35F and it faults out. When it is kept in a warm environment it works as expected.

Thx for your observations….I’ll add this to my (getting) long(er) list of this truck’s idiosyncrasies…. You know, if someone had the ability to search/scan the threads of the forum, one could compile all of the undocumented how-to’s and shortcuts, and all of the FAQs, into a book ans sell thousands……..🥰

despite my efforts to experiment and troubleshoot I’m coming to the same conclusion. The charger is just iffy and gets more faults the colder it gets.
