The site I referenced says no magic dock on V4s. Do you have a source saying there will be?
Im not trying to pick a fight - I hope you’re right.
Not trying to fight either, just see what’s out there. Saw the pic and thought you linked the technical diagram and I skimmed past, so that’s on me ;) They may be building the dock into the side, hopefully, but now I’m questioning everything. Hopefully new data comes out soon. I can see, from a business perspective, to use the gov’t money to retrofit the docks on V3, but keep the V4 Tesla-only as some kind of weird benefit Elon can flex…

Thanks for the new info, let’s see where it all goes

I personally would rather wait for chargers that have cables that work for all vehicles. If the current Tesla chargers are not capable of charging CCS vehicles that may have a different charge port configuration, without creative parking & pissing people off, then save NEVI money for chargers that do work. This needs to be a long term solution not a quick band aid half ass solution.

It would be easier and cheaper to just put longer cables on the SuperChargers. Their techs are already swapping out parts to install the Magic Dock, just include a longer cable too.
This is clearly what will end up happening. Tesla is not going to let CCS cars take up two spots because they don't want to install a couple extra feet of cable. The units that are active now are a pilot program to test the Magic Dock, they aren't part of the "rollout".

I hope that is correct & if so that would be great.

What about Ford putting a charge port on both sides?

A couple of years back I ran into the driver of this Porche Taycan, and noticed and confirmed it had a port on each side. He had been charging with the one on the left, not the right-side one seen in the photo.

Of course, the Lightning is only $100k, so maybe two ports only comes with $170k vehicles like this one ! 😉

I can confirm the Taycan drivers side charging port is only for a J1772 plug. The passenger side charging port will cover both a J1772 and DC fast charging. As you can see in my picture below, sometimes it is a stretch to get even a traditional EA charging cable out to my cars charging port.

So, if and when I park my Taycan at a traditional Tesla supercharger location I will have to take the charger cable to the right, so I will essentially be taking two spots for one charging location. The trick will be to find the locations with one of the perpendicular stalls so I can back in. Then it is an easy reach and I only take one parking spot.

Let's see what the future holds for Tesla supercharging locations, but I would anticipate Tesla doing the absolute minimum required in order to qualify for the federal charging infrastructure money. Why would they spend money to accommodate a CCS vehicle when it will not help them sell Tesla vehicles?

It is all about economics - selling cars and keeping costs down. Caring about a Porsche or a Ford is the last thing on Tesla's mind.

Easier and cheaper for Ford and other manufacturers, not cheaper for Tesla. Longer cable has liquid cooling, that's not cheap.

I hope they install longer cables too, Tesla just doesn't have the motivation we want them to have.
