Darn, it makes it fussy to have to change charging hours when going from Summer to Winter rates. Having the electric company automatically control charging hours could be an advantage to having to choose the hours yourself.
Looks like the 6 cents/kWh discount rate is good enough if all the charging is done 1-6am.

Shoot, I’ld deal with the scheduling issues for that rate. I’m in KY and paying 11-13 cents anytime. I would love to cut that in half. 😊

And we are paying over 18 cents per kwh. I would be happy with 11-13 cents.

Our discounted EV rate from 12AM to 6AM is .12Kwh, that's a screaming deal.

I'm in NC with Duke Energy Progress and our rates are good, believe it's flat $0.124 per kWh. Since new, 3 months / 4,786 miles have used 2,140 kWh. That's 712 kWh per month, just under the 800 kWh allowance, and about $265 total or $89 per month. On my 40A Emporia it can take 10 hours for a full charge so I like the flexibility to charge NOW.

I wonder how the program works? Is it like the HVAC programs where they add some hardware between your panel and EVSE that physically severs the power at Duke's call? Or is it software based, where Duke and Ford link up and the software limits the charge when you are at home? I have different concerns about either option.

Hopefully Duke will send me my charger rebate check soon!

EDIT: My 2009 F-150 4.6L 3V would do 18 mpg, or 265 gallons which at $3.50/gal would have been $928 (already saving $220/month or $663 total so far).

In MI one of our power companies offers a program but no real break on rates, just a $50 now, $50 at the end of the program kind of deal, they control the charging through Ford Pass.

The main purpose of the DTE program is not off-peak charging, it is being able to prevent charging during peak demand, and then to also attempt to force charging in periods of excess generation.

My response was more to highlight the fact that they're doing it through FordPass since benderofbows where curious how it would work.
Right. The Duke program does also. Clearly says "use vehicle telematics".

These programs can be good, depending on your vehicle usage and current rates. Clearly one has to figure that out and look at breakeven.

We're retired. Our average kW usage per month for our Mach-E over 2 years is 147kW. For the truck over 4 months it's 152. Paying for 800 would be a no-go for me.

I'm in NC and will have to do some math. I'm basically paying $.12/kw right now. But I think I'm over the 800kwh limit. I work from home so I can charge anytime. But I don't want to be limited in charging when I need to charge to 100% for my next trip.

All depends on the rates, don't it ?
800kW for $20 (which is $0.025/kW BTW) is hard to beat, we pay around $0.17 including all the fees and taxes, for your 150kW that would be $25.50, so anything less than that is still a better deal even though you're paying for "more" kW than you use.
