2022 Lightning (Ordered 6/19, delivered 10/28/22)
Im usually very pessimistic about these things (day 1 res in first 30 mins) but I have a feeling it has to do with the EV restructuring they’ve recently announced. They’re going to plan the new manufacturer direct to consumer model and tighten things up with the new team. Instead of waiting, they’re cutting it now so they can start taking orders earlier for the 23MY under the Model E structure.
Its also an attempt to stay on a semi normal schedule. The trucks already ordered will probably take Ford until early Fall. Is it really a good move to have a 2022 model be produced in say Oct/Nov/Dec? No..trucks released this fall should be 2023 models to go with the normal order of things.

Is this for ordering wave or scheduling wave?

If it's scheduling wave, I'm pretty confused. I'm a wave 1 order. I'm not sure why they would have opened additional waves if they couldn't fill the first wave alone.

I wonder if this means that with only the most expensive trims available, fewer people were accepting wave 5 orders? Or does it mean that fewer people than anticipated deferred/canceled ordering? Two completely opposite reasons they could've stopped early.

As far as impact on MY23, I don't think there is any. Many (most?) people with MY22 orders still don't have production dates. They are currently up to June production, so that means it will almost certainly take through September to produce current MY22 orders. If they open the waves again in July and start making MY23 in October, that seems sensible. The alternative is they keep the waves going, but you still don't get a Lightning til the end of 2022 because you have a longer period between ordering and production. This may benefit people in MY23, as they will learn true production capacity from this small MY22 run.

Tinfoil hat on: maybe Ford thinks they’re leaving money on the table by letting people order at 2022 pricing? Some people even opting for the lowly (gasp) Pro? Maybe they want to nip this in the bud and push everyone into MY 23 with its undoubtedly “adjusted” pricing? Hey, just asking a few questions here…

Same email...........not really surprised and, to be honest, I'm not disappointed. Gives me time to decide whether to trade/sell the Mach E or the 18 F150
You may want to keep your ME with gas prices going through the roof, you feel me?

I know, I just placed a 2023 MME order online with a $500 deposit.
At least the MME will arrive in 5-6 months...
How did you place that order? Via Ford.com; what?

So you think Ford will just shut down the plant for a few weeks or so when they run out of 2022 orders to build until 2023 Job1?

Or maybe they got enough people to convert to orders from the first 5 waves to satisfy the number they planned to build.

You tell me which one sounds more plausible.

email from ford just now:

Here’s where we are with F‑150 Lightning orders.
MATTHEW, thank you for reserving the F‑150® Lightning™ truck and joining us on this game‑changing journey.
We promised to keep you updated along the way, so we want you to know: all invitations to order a 2022 model year have been sent. We expect invitations to order future model years to begin this summer.
We realize that’s a long wait, so when we say, “Thank you for your patience,” we mean it. We are working on increasing production and will let you know when the ordering process begins.
Rest assured, your reservation still stands, and you can view the details below. If you decide to cancel your reservation, we understand. But we hope you’ll stick with us on this epic ride.
I received an email from ford saying that all 2022 models are sold out, my reservation was placed 6 hours after the release, may 20th at midnight, they asked if i would like to keep or cancel my reservation or wait for the 2023 models. Ford is pushing people to 23 model so they could jack up the price.

Yes I do. I would consider trading it for the Lightning but not for another ICE. Especially with gas prices now

Wow, that's kind of crazy. They been saying six waves plus clean up orders now it's five? I wonder what happened?
Higher than anticipated offer to order rate, larger volume of fleet sales than anticipated lowering the availability of general retail orders.

So does this mean if you got an invite and ordered it will be built?
Or if it hasn’t been scheduled it won’t be built?
I ordered mine but it hasn’t been scheduled
I'm also waiting for my build date, my order was wave 3.

It will come in the following weeks, I suspect they are sequencing commonalities based on early analysis of 5/30 build dates almost all are SR.

I think they will continue sequencing addition weeks as they monitor the kick off of mannequin production

I wonder how long Ford will keep open the order window for wave invitees that have yet to place an order or defer? It was supposed to be till March 31st.

Also curious if someone deferred their order to 2023 in hopes of getting a Pro I wonder if the opportunity to order a 2022 Lariat or Platinum is still available?
I am suspecting the folks still holding unexercised offers to buy (wave-1 to 4) might be shocked when the log on and find they can not order as of right now. Waiting for the first report of that nature, and/or in contradiction.

I'm at the Order page on ford for the MME GT Performance; what's your take on it since you own one?

Count me in with those that received the email. I reserved 47 minutes after the reveal started, so it’s little surprising to not get invited to order. I’m honestly not too bummed, though, since it saves me having to make the tough call between my Powerboost and a Lightning. The Powerboost is the first truck I’ve owned, and I’m digging it.

My tinfoil hat tells me they ended early because the conversion rate was going south and they didnt want to trickle out endless micro-waves of invitations just to get the last projected platinum sold. They also didnt want to start wave 6 with nothing but platinum left because it might just plain look bad.

They're probably lining up MY 2023 to be a part of their Model E push. It's possible the number of dealers will become more exclusive with model E and the no Haggle(Saturn) approach. They were probably annoyed and frustrated with the PR mess and want to close off EV's from traditional dealers soon before relaunching ordering for possibly both 2023 Mach E and Lightning under model E . It doesn't answer how ordering will look like, but I suspect the ADM will not be a factor next MY.

I dont think Prices will go up in any staggering way like Rivian did. Rivian blamed inflation, but I think Rivian's real problem was they didnt know how to properly cost out their build process.
