It locks in place until you stop the session from the app and unlock the truck. Only then does it come off. I was worried for the same reason and tried unplugging while locked+charging.
So with the doors locked you can't stop the charge with the charge port button and then pull the adapter or Tesla handle out?

Nope. Stop charging, unplug.

Charging with EA is always an adventure that usually ends in sadness. I’ve encountered a number of people at EA chargers who are lamenting their EV purchase and swear it will probably be their last because they think all charging is that bad.

I received my Tesla adapter in the first shipment wave from Ford. Have been on one quick road trip with it and never touched an EA charger and it was grand. I let some friends borrow my adapter and they used it last week with their Rivian and it also made for a much better experience for them.

EA is now my last resort, only use it if I must option.
