Passenger Side Mirror Impact, now getting Cross-Traffic and Blind Spot System Faults

I debated posting this in the Issues/Repairs sub-forum but thought it might be better to post here...please advise if my instincts weren't correct...

As the thread title says, my passenger side mirror got wacked which resulted in minimal actual damage to all the plastic...but the mirror plate itself was knocked loose and was hanging by various wires after the impact. I checked all the connections (a total of 3 I believe) and snapped the mirror back into place. Unfortunately I am now getting Cross-Traffic System Fault and Blind Spot System Fault each time I drive (screenshots below)

It may well be that there is some component that is broken/damaged and needs replacement. However, it appears my cameras and LED Zone Lights are functioning properly so I assume these systems would work since the camera works.

My questions are:
Are the faults I'm seeing representative of "an event" that was logged when the mirror was wacked? Can these faults be cleared using FORScan? I've got the app and a cable and would love to give it a go. Any tips/guidance would be highly appreciated
OR:
Are these faults representative of a persistent malfunction that can only be fixed by replacing/repairing something in the mirror assembly or the entire mirror assembly?

You can read the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) with FORScan. It will let you know if the DTC is previously set/ not present now or if it is present now. You can also clear them to see if they come back. I would Google the DTC codes it gives you first to see if others have a solution.

You do not need an extended license to read and clear DTC's. Since you said you have a cable I assume you are using the Windows version.

Inside the mirror is the blind spot indicator led. It's possible the led is non functional now thus creating the fault as it can't properly warn of blind spot traffic.

Great point regarding the LED. I don’t know if I’ve seen either LED on either side light up but I actually haven’t driven on the street since the mirror wack happen yesterday evening. I’ll find out tomorrow on way tonwork

Thanks again for all the info above. I had a chance to hook up FORScan and checked out the DTCs; here's what I got for the PDM (passenger door module):

Additional Fault Symptom (:15):
- Circuit Short To Battery Or Open

- Previously Set DTC - Not Present at Time of Request

I didnt do all the tests but is appears my mirror needs replacement.

Im totally new to Ford; what is the deal with buying OEM replacement parts online? Is there any alternative to parts.ford.com? I found the mirror on parts.ford.com, which said it was in stock at a dealer about 30miles away...who I visited today and they said I had to order it online for pickup next week, haha.

Is there a way to buy OEM ford parts without going through a dealer?

After reading that diagnostic chart and your DTC, if it was me, I would try to clear (reset) the DTC and see if the error message comes back. The "short to battery or open" may have happened during the whack and may not currently be present. Worst case you still have to replace the mirror, best case you win and save yourself some big bucks.

I will try clearing the codes tomorrow. I was staring at the “clear” button today but never pushed it lol. I’ll post back if that works.

If you have any salvage yards near you, I believe the ICE F150 mirror is the same in terms of form fit and function.

I had the same issue. A tree on the sidewalk curved slightly into the road and I backed into the trunk of the tree with my passenger side mirror as I tried to parallel park.

Seemed fine in the beginning but after it rained, I got the error about blind spot and cross traffic. Code logged was regarding the indicator LED. When you start the truck, the system does a self test and the indicator LED on the mirrors turn on for a few seconds. I could see the driver side turning on but not the passenger side. The error messages popped up shortly after each self test.

Local ford dealer was able to order a new glass for 160 dollars and it arrived the next day. Replaced the glass and no errors since.

Thanks again for all the replies; here's an update:

Over the weekend I:

• Popped the mirror off and reset the connector clip to the LED just in case. That did not fix things
• Hooked up FORScan again and cleared the codes and then rebooted the module; that did not fix things
• Ordered a new mirror from FordDiscountParts.com ($77 with expedited shipping == $104)
  

Total bummer, I also noticed the black gloss trim piece that runs along the bottom of the window (exterior trim/weatherstripping) now has a little dent from where the mirror smacked against it. It appears that's a $500 part and is unique to the Lightning. Doh

In case anyone has a similar problem, here are the 2 DTCs that FORScan reports

Thought I would post a follow up:

I installed the new mirror and was disappointed that did not fix my issue. I reviewed that diagnostic procedure from the fordexplorer link above and decided that I must have a connector loose or some other functionally similar problem.

I pulled the interior trim piece that hides the connectors and bolts for the passenger side mirror and then re-seated the connectors. No dice.

I then decided that I would disassemble the mirror assembly in place (mounted) rather than removing from the door itself.

After nearly breaking various plastic parts (I assumed lots of these things were press-fit) I was pleasantly surprised to see 4 screws that hold the entire contraption together; I removed these and found my problem. When the mirror was whacked one of the wires to the LED was severed. Here's a picture:

My fix was to crimp on a connector joining the severed wires. I got everything back together and fired up the Lightning and was greeted by the LED glowing again on the passenger side. I then cleared the old codes and ticked this chore off my list. Yay!

Broken wires will do it every time! Glad you finally found it.
