Is anyone else with 6.3 keep getting notifications for an additional update? It’s one of the ones that the truck needs to be off and overnight. But every time I schedule it, even for 5min in the future it doesn’t update.

The odd thing about it is that when I click the details page it shows the 6.3 update details again.

Thank you for the suggestion. Didn’t realized the cost would be this high. Guess I’ll just wait and hope they send the OTA for this.
This one is not that straightforward.

FDRS will initially try to update the IPC using a USB thumb drive. This is the preferred method.

If for some reason the IPC cannot be updated using the USB drive then the "fallback" mode is to program the IPC directly from the laptop (or VMM device) over the cable using the vehicle's CAN buss.

It's the CAN buss programming update that can take 3-5 hours, but not the USB based programming method.

What exactly does it say?

I haven’t taken a picture but will next time. It appears like an update for but not one that has the “Update Now” button. Only a reschedule, details, and close button. The details button shows the details of the 6.3 update and not a new version, which is what I would not expect.

You may have another update that's trying to get applied. The Check Updates page details normally show the notes for the update that was already applied (6.3.0 in this case). So there may be something else trying to update and until it does you won't see the notes. I can run your VIN in FDRS to let you know what updates you have available if you want to DM me your VIN.

Just for clarity for everyone else. Per @Mike G he believes the update that is trying to update is a different Apim sync update that’s 6gb. Which is why it’s having trouble.

The dealership did not update any software in your truck before handing you the keys unless there was a "stop-sell" or other requirement to do so. Trucks and cars are sold to customers everyday with available updates pending.

The "Apple Maps enhancement" you refer to was a component of the OTA 6.3 APIM (Sync) update which would have resulted in your Sync version updating to Sync 980, like this:

Thanks for this information - Looks like I have had no updates. My Product info looks out dated. How do you recommend I get this updated. Will try to call Ford Tech - but other suggestions appreciated

I'd start by contacting your dealer's service advisor (in person or on the phone) and asking them to pull up your OTA Dashboard to review your OTA history.

OTAs for your truck (as well as everybody else's) have been released in the last 60 days. So if your service advisor says that you have no OTA history for the last 60 days, then that's a problem that needs to be investigated. The SA may try to say that Ford just hasn't sent any to your VIN. But we know that's not true. Just as an example, anybody still running Sync 640 when most of us are at Sync 980 would be a clue that something's not right.

Some trucks sat on the dealer's lots for a long long time before being sold and becasue of the way OTAs are scheduled and pushed out that if your truck "ignored" lots of updates because it wasn't configured to get OTAs automatically (before you bought it), and many of the offered OTAs expired, then it might be that you'd need to visit the dealer to have a tech catch you back up to current.

Ford publishes a list of what the latest version of Sync 4(4a) versions are for different platforms. If you review this list with your SA it should be apparent that you need to have your truck diagnosed to determine why you aren't getting Sync (and probably lots of other) OTAs that should have downloaded by now.

@Minh This is accurate. My truck is incapable of having the IPC updated the traditional way and any IPC updates for me must be CAN'd in the long way. However, that may not be the case for you. If your IPC fails to update with the OTA process, then chances are, it will fail to update via the USB process, as well. Screenshot of my OTA dashboard is below for reference.

You can ask the dealer to update it for you, but I would not have high expectations that they actually do it. I have seen many cases where a dealer will try to update the IPC. When FDRS says is has to be CAN'd in and it will take 5 hours and asks the tech if he/she wants to continue, they click "no" and don't do it. I can't say that I blame them.

Recent IPC update using the CAN buss method...
Another IPC update being released would be bitter/sweet. Bitter because I'd have another 5 hour date with my truck and my laptop. Sweet because that would be one step closer to BC 1.3 for us.

My truck is still on 640. It sat for months because of the light bar recall. There's nothing that can be done? I've tried everything

As far as triggering OTA's go, there is nothing you can do. All those youtube video tips to trigger updates are placebos.

Seems that way. I’m trying to be patient but I like updates!
