When I stop at DC fast chargers, I frequently get a warning on the top of my screen that says using PPOB can extend my charging time, but I never turned PPOB on. When I go into PPOB, I have to push the power button to turn it off. What causes PPOB to automatically turn on? Is this a glitch?

It defaults to "on." It's by design, not a glitch.
Also - unless you are using it heavily it won't really extend your charging time. Even at max use (9.6kw), that is less than a 10% extension to the usual DC fast charge time .

what's interesting is that I use ProPower all the time, whether in the cab, or while towing, and yet never see that same DC Fast Charging 'message'... oh well.

IIRC, I've only seen this message if I have left the truck in the "Running" state, which is when PPOB is active.

The few times, I have shut down the truck and activated "Accessory mode" then you should not see the warning.

Negligible impact IMHO, if anything using your heater in the dead of winter while the truck is running to stay comfortable has greater impact, but my health & safety are worth the extra few minutes & KWH/$$$ spent.
