Give your truck the ultimate upgrade in lighting technology with the Putco Freedom Blade. This high-power LED light bar is designed and manufactured in the USA. Each light bar is designed to work perfectly with the year, make, and model of your truck. Unlike other rear light bars, the Freedom Blade is fully encapsulated in tinted polycarbonate resin that keeps moisture, dirt, and dust out ensuring a long life. Also, the polycarbonate makes the blade flexible so it forms to the lines of your truck, unlike other light bars on the market.

Putco Freedom Blade is named this not just because it was made in the USA but also because you can choose your turn signal color between Amber or Red. In addition, the Freedom Blade has an industry-exclusive startup sequence and scanning turn signal. Depending on your make and model this is available in two sizes 60″ and 48″. Each light bar is manufactured with up to 1,296 LEDs (60″version) rated at 60 Watts of power running at 2,000 Hz, producing a solid beam of light that is visible miles away!

If you are looking for an American-made tailgate light bar then the Freedom Blade is for you. This blade installation and setup only takes about 30 minutes with no cutting or splicing of wires. Each blade is compliant with the SAE 2022 IRSE19 DOT Compliant.

Sounds like this is meant to hook up with the trailer wiring, possibly with a Y harness? I did this with another light bar and it made the truck think there was a trailer attached and disables all the rear safety features. Does this product avoid that?

I guess I’ve been out of the vehicle mod business too long, cause $562. seems like a lot and I mean (A Lot) for tailgate light bar.

I had read that it’s not possible to plug into the trailer light plug without creating problems like you described. I have a Pro, so no brake light bar on the tailgate. Since I only want to spend about $50 on a 12” third brake like for a diy camper ($500 is out of my budget), I’m wondering if it’s possible to connect into the empty plug under the bed that’s used for the brake light tailgate bar on the higher trims?

It would just be solid red. The tailgate light bar doesn't light up brighter with the brakes.

I did not realize that. Thought it was a third brake light.

Weird I was not getting notifications of responses here...

No it does not connect via the trailer. On the newer trucks (2021+) it plugs in-line with the tail light connectors on each side

Cool, if you ever make just the wiring for that available, I'd be interested.

Ford Accessories - Putco Blade for Lightning (not Freedom type that is a bit fancier and pricier...not sure if that is ready for Lightning?). See description below.

It says 60", but I just got it (no instructions included) and it really measures 57" which fits on flat area between tailgate and bumper, if tailgate stabilizer is removed (which I did as Putco said only needed for ~600# loads). Lots of cabling with connectors, with a big main electronics module to mount somewhere. Hope I can find a Youtube with details.

Images of received parts and installation:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/YTwq1ZeFXqfe6rxFA

Installed: Talked to Putco Support (after Ford Accessories support and Motorcraft services literature webpage were not helpful) who said no need to splice wires, even though they provided 6 clips. Long loose loop of green wire just needed to be tied into a bundle. Instruction sheet (attached) was sent to me by Putco as it was not on the website. Lots of ty-raps needed, several 11", mostly 8" good. Needed to use my own double stick tape (outdoor rated) as their four 3” long mounting clips for the bar were missing the tape. Center of light bar has black plastic that should match up with center of area indicated by a center metal support of the bed that shows. Put double stick tape on mounting clips and put the four clips (spaced to avoid weld dimples and holes on the painted sheet metal) on the light bar, then centered and stuck in place. I also used two 1/4” thick x 1” x 4” pieces of cardboard to hold up & guide the sagging light bar up at the ends to keep it level. A little tough to push up cables into driver's side taillight, but did ok. Mounted black "brain" box (4"x3"x1"thick) w/ long tyraps up in almost perfectly sized gap of a bent metal support at middle of end of pickup bed (might be better to use small 1/8" bolts and drill support to mount, maybe add thin rubber for vibration dampening?). Dropped spare tire to work w/ black brain box mounting and cable running & tyrapping easier. Two 8mm head bolts on each taillight, but need to pop off the light (push/pull out from corner) as it has 3 retainer push pins that can be stiff and fit can be tight in aluminum corner.

Overall, I am happy with the product that I got for less than $400 with the discount. See my shared album of video & images (above) of installation and of it working. Who needs that stinking (leaking?) Lariat/Platinum rear light bar that doesn't even do turn signals or reverse lights! (When I ordered the XLT, March 2022, I thought it was included as part of the "signature" taillights.)
