Christmas day breakdown.

New to me 2022 Lighting Lariat. After 2 days of driving, including a 5 hour drive home from the dealership (Kamloops to Squamish BC) the truck kicked a Shift-System Fault error while approaching a 4-way stop intersection. there was a clicking sound as it ground to a stop and was presumably shifted to park as part of the error. Once stopped I was able to shift to park, restart vehicle and continued to get the error when shifting into R or D and was not driveable. The vehicle also kicked a Trailer Brake Module Fault at times.

Managed to leave it off for 5-10 minutes while waiting for a tow truck and get it working enough to pull it off to the side of the road before the problem happended again (drove maybe 50-100 ft).

Flat bed tow truck arrived about 20 minutes later. When trying to load on the tow truck, the instrument panel indicated that the vehicle was going into N, but the truck was not actually in N and would not roll. Managed to get it into D to get it up on the flat bed.
By the time we reached the dealership 15 minutes later I was able to start the vehicle without error and reverse off of the tow truck.

Left the vehicle overnight at the dealership and stopped by on boxing day to check it out since the dealer was closed. Started the vehicle and drove once around the parking lot without a problem. Connected my ODBCII reader and there were no stored codes. The only other info is from the app which twice the "Powertrain Malfunction / Reduced Power" fault and "Pro Power Onboard - The Pro Power Reserve setting is two %s of charge away"

At the dealership now. they are booking appointments 1 month out now though I have one for my Mach-e general service which I swapped to this vehicle. Hoping to get this back on the road sooner rather than later, but super concerned about the issue since the vehicle was in drive when it happened and had this happened on the highway it could have resulted in a catastrophic failure/accident. I feel fortunate that it happened on a quiet street on a quiet night.

Man that's rough. Glad you're safe. Good luck getting the truck fixed. First I've heard about this fault myself.

The shifter has been a problem with several trucks. It's usually fixed with a shifter replacement.

Here's hoping it's as easy as a shifter replacement.

So got the vehicle back yesterday. As far as I can tell nothing was done to actually address the issue. The following notes on the service order seems like they "noted" the diagnostic trouble codes and pcm and sobdmc updates available.

PERFORMED INSPECTION NOTED PARK PAWL DTCS, LOST COMM DTCS,
NOTED NO ON DEMAND DTCS AND VEHICLE CURENTLY RUNNING AS
INTENDED.
NOTED PCM SOFTWARE UPDATES AND SOBDMC UPDATES AVAIALBLE,
UPDATES AND ROAD TESTED, NOTED NO MORE CONCERNS OR LIGHTS.

Documented updates are:
23B50 - Charge cord stuck - reprogram battery control module
23B70 - Inspected and noted the part number was good. No need to apply.
24B56 - Software update for front parking sensors.
24P24 - Reprogram Front Hatch Control Module.

Not sure I have seen the end of this one yet.

Also a little concerned with the lost comms dtcs. My Fordpass app doesn't seem to stay connected to the Lightning like it does with my Mach-e. Example being this morning I shuttled my cars in the driveway to charge the truck and an hour later I looked at the app and it said the car was running. Went out to the driveway and confirmed it was not and that it was indeed charging. Had to press the door lock button in the app... (or maybe it was start climate) for the app to update and show that the vehicle was charging.

Before I hit post here I just looked at the app and the charging showed 81% which was about where it was when I plugged in. Locked the doors and watched the charging data update to 84%. Clearly not maintaining connection as intended.

Are you running ford pass 5.10.0?

I've noticed a bit of lag lately, lock requests, updating charging factors, build editing and deleting departure time rules, etc. You may be experiencing the same.

Also, given all the updates they did to your modules, your LVB may be low, but you would usually get an alert about the truck going into a deep sleep mode if that is causing lack of comm's.

The app was updated to 5.10.0 yesterday so that could be it if this version of the app is buggy. Had some lock requests fail later in the day and had to try 2-3 times on a couple of occasions. She drove for about 2 hours today and that should have brought the lvb back to regular soc… and no shifter faults so moving in the right direction
