As long as battery swaps can happen, this is great news.

I quit reading all the reports of solid state batteries. My expectation of actually seeing these batteries on the road in cars is 10+ years. I hope I'm wrong but since the lightning's battery should last me 20+ years I'm fine waiting.

I try to look at EVs and new cars the same way. Life is too short to spent any attention capital on something that may go to production at a possible price. Once I see actual owners posting reviews online, it is an option. With battery new technology, going to production may be even more complicated. “Prototype expected by 2029”. Means we really don’t have any news.

I think we'll see solid-state EVs well before 10 years but there won't be enough data or manufacturing capacity to trust it initially. An additional 5 years is reasonable to gather enough data and refine the technology to stabilize it, so your 10 years is probable for mass production. NCM and LFP have had a couple of decades already to refine the technology and build manufacturing capacity.

LFP will continue to grow given the advantages of much higher age/cycle tolerance, and recent advancements in cold weather performance and energy density.
