I’ve ordered my silver XLT 311A standard range to be built 9/25/23. Did a search for Lightnings within 100 miles of me. Found 155 and about half are Lariat, 25 Platinum, and 50 XLT. All but one XLT had the upgraded package plus an extended range battery. Bottom line, nothing under $71K. Overall, about 1/3 of them are shown as on order (not on the lot yet). There was only one Stone Grey Metallic (AKA brown, no surprise there).
What did surprise me was there were none at the “lower end” ($56K) like mine which is a darn nice truck, all I need, and what I feel I can afford.
Wondering what it all means. Are people ordering these higher-end models and backing out when they see the payment? Will there be good deals on these up-for-grabs trucks? Will all heck break loose on prices and inventory if the UAW strikes?

Ours was acquired due to the original customer backing out after the truck showed up. Same week that MSRP got lowered by 10K.

I think the Pro and base XLT are more in demand for actual truck users and businesses.

You will love the standard range.

My '22 Lariat SR got 275 miles per charge year around driving in urban LA.

Originally, when I ordered in April '22 I wanted the Pro trim as I just needed it for commuting.

Then after a year, the commute became a chore so I traded her in for a Mach E - better suited for urban driving.

The lower cost trucks just aren't sitting in inventory long, they get snatched up.
That makes perfect sense. I still wonder about what appears to be a glut of $72-95K models, like some dark-colored XLT’s with extended range batteries and accessories and options that make them more expensive than some Lariats. It’s just an “I wonder…”

When I was searching back in Feb, all the San Diego dealers wanted 5-10k over MRSP and wouldn't budge. I wouldn't be shocked to find out that the glut is due to greedy dealers not recognizing market demand.

Yes, ZPrime. Seems nowadays they’re charging just MSRP with some little incentives here and there. I’m starting to think the common denominator of all these surplus trucks is the extended range battery. +$10K for 80 more miles is not a good buy for my situation (and budget) and I figure I’m not alone. I’ll gladly take an XLT extended range off their hands for the price of a standard range—just not a brown one. 😆

Correction to my last: the glut on the lots are mostly Lariat and Platinum and cost $25-40K more than my ordered XLT. Most of the XLT’s shown in “inventory” are “dealer ordered” (haven’t arrived yet and are spoken for).

Ford really needs to decouple all the add-ons from the ER battery to make the truck more affordable. Perhaps in time, I was impatient and wanted most of the extras anyways. I'm still happy. Just waiting on DC charging to improve. Wife was not happy when we had to wait 2 hours at one stop for what was normally a non-stop 5 hour sprint in our Pilot.

That said, it certainly seems like Ford is hitting saturation in the "can afford a crazy expensive truck" crowd.

Yeah, I’m sorta “due” for a new truck, but my ‘11 F150 XL down-and-dirty work truck does just fine. Added a leather wrap to the steering wheel, bumper step, Pioneer infotainment, back-up camera, etc. The crank windows are just fine. If I could practically convert it to an EV, I’d drive it for another 12 years.

SD, el cajon etc wouldn't budge I bought mine from Lasco Ford in Michigan paid to have it delivered and still came out ahead. I get it tomorrow, and I can't wait. Bought with 7900 miles on a platinum but only paid 71k and 2 k shipping, Can't find anything near that price hear with the options.

That’s an incredible deal. I may start nudging some of these dealerships that have a stockpile of the higher end models.
