What does the M button do? I figured P would be in the center instead.
I was wondering the same thing, but after reading through the other post with the similar mod, it looks like the M (or L) button functions exactly like the N button for the 30 min neutral mode. See post here.

@jmyer72 Is the deeper part of the 3D printed tray large enough to hold a 32oz Nalgene? The diameter is 3.5". I'm mainly interested in this mod so I can have a third cup holder, ideally large enough to hold my Nalgene water bottle. Right now I have to use a cupholder adapter to hold it.

As a visual learner, I would love to see a video on the installation. If you know of one, please share. If not, hopefully, there is a brave soul that will record their work.

And thank you to the OP for sharing; this looks awesome.

What happens when you open the door or similar "dangerous" actions when the original shifter is moved to park by the ghost?
The original shifter is just shifting by wire, it responds to the input from the truck making the "shift" to park and moves accordingly. I suspect with the knob, the light changes to indicate the "shift" to park and nothing else.

How hard was it opening up that area to remove the shifter. This is a project I have been wanting to do for a long while but have been hesitant but this makes it so much of an easier. how many trim pieces had to be removed?

Is the knob motorized?

Regardless, In case of accident (in example, truck rolls backward over child) this mod seems to expose the driver, modifier, and supplier in huge jeopardy. Even if the mod acted "correctly". It would certainly cast doubt on Ford's liability.

It's shift by wire. No actual physical shift (even with the huge stick shift we have now).
It gets electronically recorded in the truck what position it's in, and the feedback from the truck indicates which gear it's in (that's how the stick physically moves from D to P if you turn the truck off for example). Same with the light on the knob. Truck feedback on which gear it is in.
(And knob isn't motorized. It just lights up whatever gear the truck says is active. You can rotate the knob 360 degrees. All it is doing is sending the truck signals to change gear (until you get to D, and then you're just rotating clockwise without any change))

Same result. The rotary knob is motorized and moves to PARK

Being an original ford vehicle part and install basically it is just a plug and play harness connection being about as close to factory as you can get without being factory IMHO. It is tested and approved for use in other ford motorized vehicles from the manufacturer….🤷‍♂️

The knob actually IS motorized. If you open a door or turn the truck off while in gear the knob actually turns as the light up indicators make their way to "P"

How interesting, I didn't know those had a motor in it. I've read some complaints/concerns about the longevity of the motor for the original shifter. Does the motor in the knob have a higher reliability? Do we even have data on that?

They've been using these on other FoMoCo products for years (including the Mach E). My wife had an Edge a few years ago that had one. I haven't heard of any major issues

Would it look goofy if it was just wrapped in a Carbon Material? I wonder if they could make the knob flush with the rest of the console without sticking out.

Looks good!

When someone can figure out how to incorporate the Super Duty vertical wireless phone charger ahead of the rotary knob I'll be interested.
What does that look like (in the Superduty)?
