After doing some digging, looks like NXP i.MX 8 processors are used in that Mach-e, so I’d assume the same family for our Lightnings.

Also, looks to use a Cortex A53 CPU core, which is basically the same core as used in a Raspberry Pi 3

I assume the OS isn’t running on CF, lol.

I’ll take sync 4a, new isn’t always good, and as Ford isn’t a software company like Tesla, they will need to make a bunch of updates after launching Android Automotive and I’m not confident Ford can manage that.
Until Ford ventures on their own for an OS they will never be good. Why be locked into and dependent on anyone else? Make it your own, don't be pigeonholed. I'm hopeful they will get there for the all new EV.

Agreed, a home grown OS isn’t needed (even Tesla didn’t go that far) but certainly a customized interface is. QNX isn’t a bad OS itself, but the ecosystem around it isn’t as great, which is why you are going to see so many manufacturers gravitate to things like Android and possibly Apple CarPlay if they do it as a full OS and not just a phone extension.

Google's new features announced today, of course, is just who can access them. The real-time charger location and status information is available to anybody with Google Maps on their phone or in the browser, whereas the updated routing algorithms launching today require having a vehicle that's running Android Automotive OS. That's Google's platform for vehicles – not to be confused with Android Auto, which involves projecting your smartphone display on top of the car's underlying infotainment system – which so far is only available on a couple of models.

I talked to a guy at the charging station with a Polestar 2 and from what I could see the Android Automotive is significantly better than Sync 4a. The guy also said that he loves the Android Automotive in his car, especially the integrated Google Maps with charging stations. We all know that Ford's maps program is not really that good. I would put it maybe slightly better than when the the first Apple Maps came out. Most people know how horrible that was. Ford's system is average at best, and it really is a shame that we can't be upgraded to it once it arrives.

Before I placed my order last week I was content knowing at least I'll be getting android auto in MY23 but wishing I had ordered already.
So pick a side because you can't have everything. I'm sure there's someone how would switch positions with you.
Getting a Lightning this year with a tax credit far outweighs waiting for Android Auto..
