Tow Mirror Skull Cap Replacement

The chrome ones came off completely, the dealer did it for me. I have them sitting in a box, so I don’t know if the tabs are still in tact. I’ll check later today.

Here are the back side of the chrome which came off, looks like they stayed perfectly in tact.

I swapped mine out. My local Ford dealer had the black ones in stock. There is a YouTube video out there that I followed. Its the same part and procedure of an F250.
The Ford part number for the "black" ones are part number HC3Z-17D742-AA. and HC3Z-17D743-AA

Just ordered mine. Seems pretty simple if it's just pressure tabs.

lariats and above get the chrome no matter what...sport package or chrome package.

My black skull caps came today...I ordered yesterday...I’ll post pics after install.

Relatively easy removal of the chrome caps by pushing 3 tabs with a flathead screwdriver (a few pics of the tabs)...there's a 4th tab in the middle which can't be reached and did break off when I took off the chrome caps. Maybe MrTrav's installer did a legit removal and disassembled what was needed to access.

No idea how they did mine, but I have fingerprints all over my mirrors which I still need to clean off.

Looks like they broke the middle bottom clip on the top one.

Yeah, not sure if it’s broken off or not. Who knows if it would clip in and be secure with the other ones in place.

How much did the dealer charge you for them? I'm in Canada but mine wants $35/mirror plus $140 labour to change them. That's around 1.5-2hrs of labour.

My dealer charged $26/cap and the installation of those and the black emblems were included as part of the purchase of the truck.

$49 for both including tax and free shipping. It came next day. I guess the dealer I ordered from had them in stock. Don't have a dealer install if it's not free... it's a very easy install...takes 5-10 mins tops. BTW one of mrtrav's middle tabs is broken. I'm pretty confident it would install securely with the other tabs in place.

That's a typical dealer gouging you. Order them online and do it yourself.

is the part that breaks by using this method, is that part of the chrome skull cap? or part of the housing that the cap goes on?

if its part of the cap, then no issue since its being replaced, assume the broken piece falls out
