I'm lucky and got grandfathered in to a plan from Green Mountain Energy that gives me 1:1 with no limit on how much my credit is, I haven't paid an electric bill in over 6 years!
My solar installer was on that plan(or something similar), but they cut them off because they were producing too much.

You donā€™t get anything back on that plan right? You just keep the credits and they roll over?

Do you produce enough this time of year or do you have to use credits from other months? Iā€™m sure your A/C like mine pretty much runs 24/7 this time of year.

Yeah the A/C is on all the time, keep it at 73F inside... house is single story, 2,700sqft and almost 8 years old so very efficient. In the peak of summer I'll use around 1,000kWh and sell back around 500kWh. I have an 8.2kW system about evenly split facing East/West.

luckily I've been able to sign up for 3 year plans which my current one will be up in December, I'm at $0.142/kWh all in with a buyback at the same rate with no limit. The credit just rolls over so I build it up in the spring time and some in the winter (have natural gas heat) and use them in the summer. In the 6 years I've had solar I've never used all of the credits. I peak at around $450 in credits and probably get down to $350. I was told I could cash out if I ever left but currently have no reason too! This is my first summer with the Lightning so we'll see how low the credit gets down too!

And I thought everything was bigger in Texas?
Here is Los Angeles with our DWP / department of water and power which is much cheaper than Southern Calif. Edison rates. I just received my DWP bill today that reflects my first bill with my Lightning truck and home charger.

So we get bill every 2 months/ 60 days. Prior to my Lightning, my 2 month electrical usage was in the area of 8 kwh a day / 540 for the 2 months. now my truck just ran it up to 933 kwh. my cost for power is 23 cents per kwh for the first tier of 700 and then gets bumped tier 2 to 29 cents for the next 1400 kwh beyond the first 700.

So yes are rates are much higher here, but our weather is more desirable. Of course our gasoline cost are the highest in the nation so it's still a bargain paying roughly 10 cents a mile based on 2.5 miles per kwh.
Diesel as of 8/12/24 4.70-5.70 a gallon
Regular 4.16-5.00 a gallon.
Catalina Island 7.34 regular 7.98 premium 7.84 diesel

I have a almost 21 year old large two-story house(2 AC units) so I use quite a bit more energy than you (For the size, it is pretty efficient )but I have a roughly 18kW south-ish facing system I oversized a little to account for the Lightning(hopefully oversized enough). I researched solar for a few years prior to pulling the trigger, but when I decided to buy the truck earlier this year I figured it was time, free fuel, sort ofā€¦LOL
But research is different than owning and always trying to learn and see what I can do better!
Edit: I have natural gas as well!

Everything is BIGGER, except our cost for energy. LOL
I think I use more than the 540kwh for your two months in a week!

Although I use a decent amount, I didn't think it was enough I could justify solar. The rates going up the last couple of years may justify that some day. Sadly in the summer months my water bill is as expensive as my electricity bill. 2300 sq ft, built in the late 60's, renovated 9 years ago. A single 5 ton AC unit. I wish there were two smaller units, but just no good way to make that work.

smartmetertexas.com is an easy place to download and track historical usage if you weren't aware. My last few months of usage. This next bill is going to hurt even worse than July's.

I'm in Texas and I have averaged ~1900kWh/mo over the last 12 months. Last month was my peak so far with 2700kWh, but August will beat that. I have a 2 story 20+ year old house and according to Emporia, I have averaged around 350kWh/mo in home charging. I only have Co-Serv in my area, but I only pay 11.89 cents per kWh and that is with their solar only plan. The electricity only comes from solar sources. I switched over to it once I realized the regular rate was 11.98 cents, so it is a win-win from a cost and renewable energy standpoint. I plan on going solar on my next house though whenever I decide to move.

The worst part of this whole deal is that they credit you based on the data that ford has. If itā€™s anything like what I see in Ford pass app, then I am going to be screwed.

I decided to go solar for a few reasons one being the icepocalypse (Snowmageddon)we had a few years ago, The Texas grid pretty much sucks, although fortunately we havenā€™t had anything major again yetā€¦. And our prices have increased substantially. Check out energysage.com to do some research If youā€™re interested. PM me if you want to I will tell you my couple years of research and a good honest local installer or two. It is a big investment upfront, but with the tax credits It kind of makes sense. My cost for electricity from solar is now locked in (for the next 20-25 years minimum) at about $.04-$.05 per kilowatt hour, depending on how you look at it.
