USB-C Power Output?

Has anyone seen any information on power available via the various USB-C ports?

ie. is it enough for a laptop? iPad?

Looks like 10w from USB-C, so not much. I wouldn't expect the Lightning to be any different.

Does anyone know where the 12v converter module is for these ports? How hard is it to get to? I wonder how hard it would be to buy a half-decent 30A or higher output and mod it in.

Are you asking about the 12V ports or the USB? I’m guessing the former since a 30A+ USB would make no sense.
The 12V ports are powered from the 12V battery, which is charged from the HVB with a DC-DC converter.

I am asking about the two USB ports next to the wireless charger.

Doing online research seemed to answer my question - these are charge+data ports, so modding them would be tricker, but not impossible. Essentially what you need to do is cut the input wire, and rewire these to be connected to a higher amp USB-C hub.

Someday I may try this adventure and document it, for now I just bought a 45A 12V USB-C charger for $12 and put it in the lighter socket.

Old thread, but adding two cents in case anyone else is wondering how the USB C ports in a Lightning work for an iPad. I don’t know the power output rating of these ports (went searching myself and found this thread). I use an iPad 12.9 Pro as my only computing device (other than my iPhone). I work all day in my truck with my iPad and the USB C ports provide plenty fast charging of the iPad. I can’t say if it’s faster than what I was using in my ICE 2020 F150, which was an 12V USB C adapter that claims 60W PD to the USB C port, but it doesn’t seem to be suffering at all. No more 12V adapter needed. I would expect it to handle a Mac Book Air roughly the same as my understanding is that the Mac Book Air and the iPad Pro pull about the same amount of power.

TLDR: no problem powering and charging an iPad Pro 12.9 M2 off the USB C port in a Lightning

Plenty of power for both.

I’ve charged my iPad mini while using it for Waze (CarPlay was using ABRP) and it keeps it charged perfectly fine. But the power needs of that is minimal (20W)

I’ve also charged my Lenovo Yoga X1 which typically uses a 65W charger and it keeps it topped off. The laptop does not go into reduced power mode and it stayed full for over 10 hours of a drive.
